Alt Wyk is a one star Michelin rated restaurant on in Wyk, located in the pedestrian area close to the seafront. The restaurant resides in an old and charming building, and the interior matches the exterior, nice, cozy and upscale. It's owned and run by a friendly German couple.
The menu features a set menu with dishes taken from the à la carte menu. If you don't go for the set menu, beware that the portions aren't large and designed to allow you eating appetizers, a main and dessert and leave the restaurant pleasantly filled.
The cuisine can be called "sophisticated German". Fortunately the chef doesn't follow the latest fashion of food artistery, but creates dishes with manageable complexity and a keen focus on the taste. Everything we had was excellent and flawlessly prepared, accompanied by very nice wines by the glass.
The service is friendly and competent. Prices may be expensive for Foehr, but can be considered modest for a Michelin star restaurant and definitely adequate for the quality you get.
All in all, we had a very pleasant evening. Although we are far from knowing all restaurants on Foehr, we would be very surprised if there was any place on the island that can challenge Alt Wyk when it comes to fine dining. Highly recommended.

We booked a table for eight in advance and were seated the moment we walked through the door on a Friday (at 8 pm). Some friends who did not have a reservation were turned away because there were no spare tables. So this is a pretty popular restaurant and one should avoid showing up without a booking, especially on weekends. The friendly waiter looked after us all evening. Following his advice, some of us had the dish of the day—battered fish and prawns with warm potato salad. The food did not disappoint, but did not excite either. Do not expect Mediterranean-style fish delicacies. This is more of a rustic than gourmet restaurant.

Klein Helgoland occupies an idyllic spot next to the marina at Wyk – and they know how to make the best of it. The style and classic taste of the proprietor, Klaus Imlau, pervade everything from the décor to the menu. Attention to detail is almost frightening. He has managed to assemble a young and vibrant team that is hell-bent on providing their guests with a deeply satisfying experience. Two chefs, for example, make sure that delicacies such as asparagus (don’t forget in Germany they are mostly eaten in their white form) or fresh fish are cooked to perfection.
Two tips:
Firstly, walking there or taking a bicycle – Föhr is a heaven for cyclists and you can hire them everywhere – is usually a better bet than the car, as parking space close to the café is limited. Also, when in season they might tempt you with a glass or two of freshly made strawberry punch.
Secondly, make sure you don’t just have an appetite but you are HUNGRY; particularly the slices of cake are known to have made lesser eaters weep and beg for mercy.
Oh, there is actually a third one. If you are on Föhr, make sure you don’t miss this.
Opening hours vary throughout the seasons. For up-to-date info see www.cafe-klein-helgoland.de

Wir waren hier mit Freunden. Sehr schöne Atmosphäre und netter, guter Service. Beim Essen mussten wir leider etwas Abstriche machen, u.a. waren die selbstgemachten Pommes sehr versalzen. Daher einen Punkt Abzug.

This is yet another example where the top rated restaurant is far from being the best in town. In many occasions a popular restaurant with good value makes it to the top of TA. But in this case I really don't get it. The ambience is nothing special at all, simple and little attention to detail. The menu features rustic cuisine, well executed and tasty, but bordering expensive.
My main issue with the place is that the customer is NOT king. No credit cards accepted, no Reservations. A service that is efficient, but that doesn't respond well to criticism at all. Asking when food will be served 50 min after it was ordered will result in an answer "How do I know? Your food will be served when your order is due..." and a long rambling how difficult it is to run a restaurant nowadays. And since we complained that we waited for an hour, we were shown an order slip that proved we were in fact waiting for as little as 50 min...
Well, our food was served just 2 minutes after. Again, the food was good. But with the shortcomings the place has, it's difficult to understand why this place is so well rated.
So when you are just looking for a good meal, the place may be right. If you have any kind of elevated expectations towards your dinner, avoid!
