Second only to Berlin in size and population, the city of Hamburg is home to one of the biggest harbors in Europe. A stroll along its many waterways and canals illustrates why it has been called the "Venice of the North." Don't miss a trip to the local fish market (Fischmarkt), the Merchants District (marked by its imposing red-brick architecture), a fine dining experience along the river or a night out in the university quarter. And did we mention the Reeperbahn (red light district)? It's quite famous for its… red lights.

Miniatur Wunderland is the world’s largest model train exhibit, and still growing. See trains running through recreations of Hamburg and the coast, Austria, the Grand Canyon and Scandinavia.
A fascinating miniature world, created with so much finesse, attention to detail, wittiness, and good for an unforeseeable surprise. It is an attraction for young and old, for families, dates, or spare some time by yourself. Take some time and dive into this world and soak in the adventures of the miniature people in a shrunken world.

The idea is simple: In completely darkened rooms blind people lead small groups of guests through an exhibition in which everyday situations are experienced altogether differently, without eyesight. In the dark, the daily routine becomes a new experience. A reversion of roles is created: sighted people are confronted with different ways of perception; blind people provide them with security and a sense of orientation transmitting a world without pictures. In addition to the exhibition, we offer Dinner in the Dark, Seminars & Trainings in the dark and Dialogue in Silence.
What an amazing experience. You get to experience various settings in complete darkness as a blind person would experience them, including ordering and paying for drinks and/or sweets at a bar. A blind person leads the tour.
Terrifying to start with and hugely enlightening. Do not miss this.

This is a lovely old fashioned theatre with great service and a good variety of shows. Here I have seen one of the best comedy shows ever.
It's located amongst many restaurants, bars, shops and other theatres in St Pauli and easily reached by public transport.

Very few visits are aware that Ohlsdorf is the worlds largest, most beautiful, peaceful, rural park Cemeteries in the world. 391 acres, 12 chapels. Very nicely maintained green. Mausoleums, rhododendron bushes, its ponds and birds, sculptures and funerary museum. Famous celebrities are buried here. Moreover Commonwealth Graves ..... You can walk for hours. It takes you back in history and makes you appreciate beauty and life.

The botanic garden Park Planten un Blomen (plants and flowers) has Fountains, a playground, and a rink for ice skating or blading.
I decided to visit it during the night with music and lights, it was so pretty and definitely a place to visit. I would recommend going on the days where it has music and lights and in the darkness. It was a great experience and it was like Fountains dancing along with the music.

Me and a group of mates recently visited Hamburg and took in a St Pauli game at Millerntorstadion.
The stadium is located in the heart of the St Pauli district 5 minutes from the Reeperbahn. It's a cracking little stadium (30,000 capacity) from the outside with plenty of atmosphere to soak up on a match day.
The ticket office helped my mates get seats together which we were not expecting with it being close to a sell out so fair play to them.
Inside the stadium the atmosphere was electric. I have been all over Germany for football and this was very impressive indeed.
The bar and toilet facilities inside the stadium were efficient with no queuing.
The only drawback is the quality of football which was very poor. It must be said. With the revenue this club must generate through merchandise and ticket sales I find it hard to believe they can't invest more in the team to give these great fans something better to watch on the park.
That being said , the last minute winner when no one was expecting it lit up the stadium.
Be sure to visit the Jolly Roger pub across from the stadium. Excellent atmosphere and 2 euro beer.
There is massive club shop outside the stadium to cater to every whim.
We had excellent 40 euro tickets but they can be bought from as little as 10.
Well worth a shout if you're in Hamburg.
Enjoy.

Walk the staircase area in the Blankenese neighborhood. The winding streets and hills offer Elbe views.
The Treppenviertel is a beautiful quarter consisting of small winding paths leading through the scenic hillside of Blankenesee. It is a lovely place for a quiet walk to take in the amazing views and amazing Gardens. There are a lot of stairs (as the name implies) but you can choose longer or shorter routes depending on your requirements. It also makes for a lovely place for runners to push themselves by attempting a run along the river and then up into the town.

The Hamburg Zoo, opened in 1863, has a new elephant pavilion and new tropical aquarium. Animals are in naturalistic enclosures.
This is a good example of a developing zoo - there sure are some really old and outdated things, but you can also see lots of modern enclosures where animal welfare is obviously prioritized.
For example, i totally liked the expanded enclosure of the Kamtschatka bears or the Orang Utan dome.
There's a relatively new area called "Eismeer" where you can observe the magnificent walruses floating through the water (it's one of the very few zoos that shows walruses!) or watch different kinds of penguins in nice, modern enclosures. There's also polar bears, however, their enclosure seems rather boring and small...especially considering it was only built recently.
What's really funny and cute are the Maras and a family of Capybaras roaming free throughout the zoo!
The "Tropenhaus" can be visited seperately from the zoo and is definitely worth paying a visit as well.

Warehouse district is the zone located close to the HafenCity (Port of Hamburg). It is the old warehouse district, which is all re-constructed and modernized. Now here there are some of very interesting museums like Miniatur Wunderland, Spicy's Gewürzmuseum, Hamburg Dungeon, Deutsches Zollmuseum or Speicherstadtmuseum, which you can visit. Also, from here you can see very beautiful views of Elbe River and the Port. A very nice area to walk, eat, drink, enjoy with the museums or learn about the history of Hamburg.
