Zwiesel is a town located in the lower-Bavarian district of Regen, and since 1972 is a state-approved health resort with particularly good air. The name of the town was derived from the Bavarian word stem "zwisl" which refers to the form of a fork. The fork of the rivers Großer Regen and Kleiner Regen and the land which lays between these two rivers was called Zwiesel.

Traditional home cooked food with delicious fresh beer. This restaurant is small and kind of hidden behind a tree. Our hotel recommended we eat here and we were glad we did. I had a New York Strip Steak (Rump Steak) with fried potatoes (brat kartoffel) and a yummy salad. My husband had the Weiner Schnitzel (Schwein) with french fries (Pommes) and a salad.

Perfect dinner with tasty dishes of good variety, very friendly staff, satisfactory choice of wine. This was our first visit even though we are "half local", and in my opinion the Marktstube is the best international cuisine restaurant far and wide, in terms of quality easily on par with culinary tempels of good renown. If you go for a multiple course arrangement like I did though, keep in mind that even the half portions on offer are at least twice as big as degustation meals in Michelin-starred restaurants, so go easy on the number of course or bring along a lot of hungry company. By choosing this place, you will seemingly make no mistake!

Following recommendation of the local Tourist Info, we went to Stadt-Cafe for "something sweet". Very comfortable place, lovely staff. I really enjoyed my cake and coffee. My boyfriend though, just loved, his huge and delicious Ice Cream Sundae. To be honest, he keeps talking about it. We'll definitely come back if/when we are around.

We never miss an opportunity to visit this excellent restaurant and we are obviously not alone as there are always lots of tables occupiedby locals and visitors. Situated across the road from the forest railway station and about 5 minutes walk from the centre of town it is traditional in decor but the food ranges from traditional to modern. Try the salads or as I do make sure the main course you choose comes with a salad and the dressings are wondeful. The service is friendly and good to see them in the traditional "Dirndles".

Lunch in this traditional German Hotel and Restaurant was excellent.
It was a beautiful summer day and we sat at the secluded garden Terrace at the back of the hotel.
Service was professional with a good choice of regional food and excellent wines by the glass.
The Wiener Schnitzel and Pork cutlets with cheese Spätzle were very good. Very generous portions.

Very good kebaps - good menu, friendly staff. A good way to eat well for very little money. It took a little while to get everything but was definitely worth the short wait.
