"Fesh trout and deer are two of the specialities of the restaurant and the region".
Szilvasvarad is famous for its trout, and Csobogo serves it up deliciously.
During our summertime visit, the trout was grilled outdoors, and our table was situated next to a small stream. Service was brisk and good, and waiters seemed to speak English OK, and probably speak other languages, too.
Three of us had the wild mushroom soup to start, and while the soup was very good, I felt there were too many croutons in the bowl, as I don't care for that much bread in my soup.
The trout dishes were all prepared perfectly, with very hot, tender, succulent trout on each plate. Mine was served simply with herbed butter and side salad (don't expect too much from salads in this country) that was at least lightly dressed instead of the usual drowned in creamy glop. My companions had the eggplant sauce and the garlic sour cream topping, and both were done well, too.
We skipped dessert, preferring to have ice cream later in the day at the Sárvári Cukrászda in Eger.
Overall, the meal was very good, the trout excellent, the service good. Recommended.

Lovas is a very good inn, one of the bests among Hungarian inns. They offer trout, truffels and game as well as traditional Hungarian dishes. The meal prices are high especially because they do not contain the garnish. The drink prices are reasonable, they have a few good wines from the Eger region.
The atmosphere is dominated by the horses (lovas means rider) and they have a children's menu too.

After a long hike in the valley we couldn't wait to get some lunch. A quick browse on tripadvisor and we ended up in Fenyo vendeglo (there isn't a wide selection around anyway).
The place was packed, we barely got a table, a good sign I thought.
Then we received our food, fried trouts with boiled potatoes and sesame chicken with mayo-corn salad and boiled potatoes. Everything was as bad as it gets, except for the fish. Corn and potatoes were the lowest and cheapest quality possible and completely flavourless. Boiled potatoes cooked wrong, really? Even a 5 year old could handle it. The chicken was shredded and cooked very dry.
The elderflower syrup was sweeter than sugarcane juice, I had to dilute it with water to be able to drink it.
I think you get the point, just avoid this place.

This is a small, open air, retro style restaurant in Szalajka valley hiking area, on the way to the Waterfalls. They sell the local trouts in various style, we tried the smoked, baked one which was really delicious. The only spice they use to prepare it is salt. Safe for celiacs. Please note to prepare with your own gluten free bread as all the side dish they have contains gluten.
