This restaurant specializes in pork shank. The name of restaurant, Csülök Csárda, means "shank inn". You can order a steak, but the name of the restaurant is not steak restaurant, it's shank restaurant, order the shank. I remember eating here a couple of times 20+ years ago, and I told my husband that when we arrived in Esztergom, I knew where and what we would be eating. We ordered the pork shank in the Baker's Wife style (Pekné modra) for 2 people. The Baker's Wife style is a luscious long cooked shank with crispy skin (think chicharrone). The shank was incredible and my good memories had not failed me. My husband thought it was the best meal ever. We had excellent service (by professional, older waitstaff). My husband insisted on returning the next day for lunch. We had smoked shank crepes (palacsinta) that were also excellent. Unfortunately we had to then leave town so we could not go back again. We will find a way to get back to Hungary and the Csülök Csárda. It's that good.

I have actually eaten here 3 different times, twice ins 2007 and once in 2011, and every time just improved which was pretty hard to do since the first time it was awesome. The place is set up very well, and extremely popular with the locals. When we came this time it was hard to find a table (despite the fact it had expanded since the last) because it appeared everyone in town was there.
The food is very cheap, and the portions you are get huge. We both at so much we didnt need dinner that night! They have a very wide selection of Eastern European food, as well as , excellent pizza.
They are cheap, great, very posh and tidy, great service, and being so close to Esztergom is worth coming over from the border!

I was in this restaurant during job trip and I had opportunity to experiment typical gulas. Really good and cheap (about 3€). With 2 beers and dessert I payed total 9 €. Recommended

We were hungry, so perhaps not very discerning, ordered pasta lunches and sat back to wait, and wait...After nearly half an hour we asked where the food was, and were told to wait a little longer. When it arrived, the pasta was okay. You can choose from four types of pasta to go with your sauce type, so the selection is quite good, and the salad we had to go with it was fine. The pizzas (we didn't try, but seemed popular) in two sizes, "normal" and "brutal." The latter really huge, family size. Pizza might be a better bet here since the waiting time was clearly less.

Lovely interiors below the Cathedral. Like being in a cellar. Location wise it's right below the most visited site in the area, the Cathedral. Service was warm and receptive.
The food we had was perfectly well cooked and hit all the right spots. Highly recommended when you're in the area.

Were here three times in the last years. The food is OK, also the service. There aren't that many options for fine dining in Esztergom. But: every time, there was something wrong with the card terminal, I suspect that they don't want to you pay with card which can be quite unpleasant if you would like to cover for a group.
It is also sad, that when I ordered a nice fillet steak, they actually served strip loin. It was tasty and tender, but still petty to cheat with a cheaper cut.

We went to visit the place with friends. What is really outstanding the view, you can see the city, the Basilica, even the Slovakian side of Sturovo. You can not find any other place with a better view.
The food was great, can not complain, really worth a visit.
However the service was terrible. It is the owner's fault to fill up the staff with students who has no idea about hospitality at all. Shame that they can follow some of our orders, we have to wait 45 minutes to clean the tables and nobody asked if we would like to have dessert, cafe etc.
I would recommend to visit the place because of the view, but it is better if you don't have big expectations about the service itself.

This place serves upp all the "neighbour's classics" like Pilsner Urquell and Budvar at prices just above €1. But that's not all, they also offer some Belgian and German beers, at very reasonable prices. A lot more taps (around 10) than is usual for this area. No food except for some snacks, decent espresso €1,20. Mineral water €0.70 - you get the picture.
The "go outside, go back in" bathroom in the back is a bit more of an experience than most people would like, but not too bad. Somehow the old school groove (smoking allowed inside!) just works. The bartender's English was on a level which allowed him to explain the relationship between the Hungarian and Slovak speakers of the city, and his service attitude was excellent overall.

Esztergom is a regular stop for river cruise ships to visit the giant Basicilla. It is very impressive. We happened upon Palinka Patika whilst walking in the town. There is a nice outside Seating area and we sat down for a beer. The staff were very helpful and we enjoyed a very nice beer. So far nothing unusual but when we stepped inside,WOW, it is immaculate. You could eat your lunch off the floor, it really is that clean. If you need some refreshment having climbed the hills of Esztergom then this is definitely a pitstop worth making.
