We drove up and down the Hibiscus coast on a Sunday afternoon trying to find a restaurant with a reasonable setting and good food. Most were closed. Others, well, did not quite seem 'right'. We eventually stopped at the Keg in Margate Hotel. It has always been one of our favourites through the years. It again did not disappoint. My wife had the lamb pot pie, I had the new bunny chow. The chef actually accomodated me by making the curry very mild.
Bottom line, I need to add the Keg and Galleon to my review list as the food is always very good and well prepared with generous helpings, the menu is comprehensive and the prices are 'right'. In my opinion, one of the top restaurants on the hibiscus coast that finds the right balance between quality, affordability, and especially not being ripped off. The setting and ambiance is the only reason for not giving a 5/5, but one needs to realise it is after all a pub-restaurant.

A booking for 5 people was made for a 7.30pm sitting. We arrived promptly at 7.30 but waited for a couple of minutes and then only after we stopped a waitress were we even acknowledged and shown to a table. Waited some more for our waitress to bring menus who told us to order quickly because the mains would take a long time but staters would be quicker. We placed our order for both starters and mains at 7.50pm. Starters arrived at 8.15, so 20 minutes for starters that were mediocre. At 9.00pm we were starting to get quite twitchy as we still waiting for our mains. Then eventually at 9.05 our mains arrived. No apology from the manager who placed the first plate on the table. This was the same lady who for the past one and a half hours had visited all the tables in the restaurant except ours. A salad was ordered and was asked if chicken strips could be added. The waitress came back and said no as the chicken was frozen with the pasta for the chicken and pasta dish on the menu. I ordered the Spaghetti with clams and squid heads, it did say chilli, but it was so hot I could only manage 1/4 of the dish. There was also sand in every mouthful as the clams were not cleaned properly. Out of 5 dishes no one enjoyed their meal and expected a better quality of food from a restaurant like this.

One of my most favourite beachfront restaurants. Good food & wonderful atmosphere. WHY DO WE NOT HAVE MORE BEACHFRONT RESTAURANTS IN SA PEOPLE ?

Restaurant situated right on the beach (use the 'pay parking' just up the hill, there's hardly any parking actually at the bottom of the road and it's an easy 2min walk to the restaurant) , sea right in front of the tables. Wear a hat or risk sunstroke at the outside tables!
Good seafood, though have doubts on how much is fresh (often a problem on the south coast to be honest) rather than frozen, but well cooked never the less, had a lovely lobster thermidor, fried brie, calamari, all very nice. Zar1100 for 5 of us including wine and beers and zar480 for the lobster, so fairly good value for beachside eating?
Friendly professional service with a sense of humour, always nice in a busy restaurant.

There is no doubt that Casa Toscana is the very best there is on the far South Coast.
Many of your favorite Italian options are available , in addition to the chefs local alternatives.
The pasta and fish options were great and all our guests had compliments for the way the food was prepared.
The service is at the very best average to slow , but remember you are in the South Coast and service is generally very very slow and poor.
A big YES

Booked for and visited on the 30th of December 2017. Looked forward to a great meal shared with family as we only heard good things about this restaurant, ordered 2 prawn platters (dissapointing as we love prawns and expect only the best when we pay...MoreThank you for your review. Sorry you did not enjoy everything. I have spoken to my kitchen about your concerns. Good to hear you enjoyed the service and some dishes!

The Frangipani Restaurant at the Days At Sea Hotel is situated above the Indian Ocean in a tropical garden with old frangipani trees. The set dinner menu is written on a board and offers every day changing fresh products. White table cloths and cotton serviettes go with with fine dinner glasses and porcelain. Your food and wine will be served by our friendly competent waiters who are always willing, they will be sure to make your experience a memorable one. The Frangipani restaurant has a huge wine cellar where guests can walk in and choose their wine choice from. The extensive platinum awarded wine list by Diners International was awarded the 2008 wine list of the year. It is a casual smart atmosphere with Cafe Del Mar style music. In the evening live Concerts like Pavarotti and friends are projected onto the wall of the restaurant setting the perfect mood. Dress is smart casual so be sure to look your best.
Unbelievable! Best food on the South Coast. And a view to die for. They serve a 3 course set menu which turned out to be a 5 course menu. Like in Hartford House the Chef explained and we enjoyed.

We specialise in freshly made-to-order crispy Belgian waffles, topped with an array of savory or sweet options. If waffles aren't your thing, you can opt for savory dishes with the rice or salad option, while sweet dishes are offered in a bowl without the waffle. We believe that food should be fresh, wholesome, nourishing, as well as delicious. So great care is taken in the preparation of your food; this includes the use of whole foods and quality ingredients in our recipes. To make your food just that bit more special, we try to use organically grown vegetables and salad produce whenever possible, avoiding foods that contain additives, preservatives and colourants. We aim to meet our customers' individual needs by ensuring we offer gluten, egg, or dairy-free options, as well as a range of vegetarian and vegan options. Our Little Wafflers also deserve a menu of their own, with portions tailor-made for little bellies. Waffle soldiers, toasted treats and a range of sweet waffle add-ons are all available for them to enjoy. To keep them occupied in between mouthfuls, our menu doubles as a picture that can be coloured in and turned into a work of art.
Always popular so go early as no bookings taken. Food is excellent and an interesting variation served with waffles. Staff are helpful and friendly. A consideration would be cushions for the elderly. Must make mention of the car guard in the parking, he was fantastic

Larry's Family Restaurant in Margate will ensure that your visit is a memorable one. We are ideally-located on Panorama Parade overlooking the popular Margate beachfront and paddling pool. It is a strikingly different and original eatery. For more than 20 years, the names of patrons have been burnt into wood panels, which have been used to decorate the walls, ceiling and furniture, both inside and on the verandah. Some patrons do it just for fun, but most to commemorate a special day. Also a feature of long standing at Larry''s is the quality of service and variety on its menu. The menu is both extensive and extremely flexible. In addition to a full range of steaks, burgers, seafood, pasta, pizza, grills and baskets.
This restaurant has a lovely position right on Margate beachfront.
Unfortunately the food quality is inconsistant. Sometimes it is really good, other times is it terrible.
We used to go there a lot and also recommended it to all our guests but not anymore.
Something needs to change first.... maybe this inspires ???
