We came here Saturday evening with a couple of friends, and since we enjoyed it so much we came back for Sunday lunch with a different friend. Both meals were very good, especially the prawn crepes and also the lamb cutlets. The Deserts were excellent and we really enjoyed the chocolate and lemon tart. Service was good and the only slight downside was waiting almost 20 minutes for the bill.

We stumbled across this gem as we strolled along the harbour in Santa Luzia. The decor was charming and there were several tables filled on a somewhat breezy May Friday at lunchtime. The owner was charming and helpful. He introduced us to our fish - fresh that day from the market - before taking it away and cooking it. We started with a simple, delicious octopus salad. The octopus was so tender it melted in the mouth. Our grilled fish was cooked to perfection and served with boiled potatoes and a simple salad of lettuce, tomatoes and grated carrots. The wine recommendation, Prova Regia, was perfect with our meal. It was difficult to choose between the chocolate mousse (no sugar added) or the mango and cinnamon mousse - so we had one of each. Both were superb, but the unusual combination of mango & cinnamon just edged into first place.
Throughout the meal, the owner was helpful, friendly and showed quite a sense of humour, without ever being intrusive.
I am sorry we are not in to area longer as i would love to return to this delightful restaurant.

I was not happy when my wife picked this place. The kitchen style is unclear: a little Portuguese, a little African, lots of Italian...but, I must admit, the food was VERY good. The wines are clearly overpriced for Portuguese standards.

Small And Cozy Restaurant
There are lots of good places to wine and dine in the area, however, none provide the very special service and attention given by Tito, the proprietor. The food and wines were excellent and good value for money, but, the ambience created by Tito is...MoreThank you very much for your review. Looking forward to see you again Mr. Carlton. Best regards Tito and Paula (wife and Chef - credits also go to the kitchen) Again, thank you

It is on the quay side. Small and a favourite of ours. Owned by two sisters - Julia is M'd - wonderful host. Lunch/tourist menu is excellent value.
It took us two attempts to find this highly-recommended restaurant - perhaps because there is no signage outside. We should have realised, however - the tables outside this quite small restaurant on the riverside just past the Mercado da Ribeira were packed, while the considerably larger restaurants on either side were virtually empty. And if that was not a good enough clue, the clincher was the redoubtable owner Julia holding court among her customers and exchanging repartee with passers-by.
It was so good that though we originally planned to eat at a different restaurant each night during our stay in Tavira, we returned to A Barquinha for our final meal. On both occasions the food was delicious, the service impeccable and the welcome truly friendly. Julia has the gift of making you feel like an old friend, and her advice on what to order is sound...she does her best to cater to what you want rather than what she wants to sell.
On our first visit I ordered veal with mushrooms - really tasty - and for our farewell meal had the Golden Bream recommended by Julia. It was superb - as was the delicious salad served before the main course. I know it seems odd to rave about a salad, but as other reviewers have noted, it really is special!
Four main courses, one dessert, a bottle of wine and three beers came to just 68€. What a treat!

Pessoa's is a cozy cafe with character, situated in the heart of the pittoresque town of Tavira. With our ample selection of tapas & wine you can truly enjoy our beautiful view. All our goods are fresh from the local market!
Drinks and tapas on the pavement or inside. I prefer inside by the door as it’s the best of both worlds. You can see the river and surroundings but not be almost run over or have people smoking around you. Food is fresh and tasty and service is friendly. Not as cheap as many.

We stopped here for lunch and sat outside, which in itself is satisfying in February. Within minutes the sun was shining on us too.
I had the “Prato do dia” which was vegetable soup followed by cheese salad. Both were with local ingredients. The soup was good, and the salad was one of the best, really. I cheated and tastes my better half’s sardine bruschetta and really understood why sardines are one of the symbols of Portugal. The chicken salad was generous, and I helped with that too. We had gelato for dessert, all washed down with a local white wine.
The service was excellent and very friendly.
Highly recommended.

We ate here twice during our stay. There is a great grill selection and portion sizes are good. The grilled steak was excellent value at €10 for the largest steak I've eaten for a while. Nice and lean too. The octopus was tender and the pork platter was enormous. Booking is preferable as the place fills up. Opens at 1900.
