Things to do in Rocky Harbour

We went for dinner on a busy evening. While we were seated promptly the order of our appetizers took 50 minutes and a hour and 15 minutes for the main meal. The staff did apologize for the long wait and was told they were under staff. The appetizers were good but found the main meal of a club sandwhich was not up to standards.
We thought to give the restaurant a second chance and went for lunch the next day. It was less people so less of a wait for our order. The mussels were good but felt the portions could be larger for the price you are paying. In addition, it did not seem to be fresh steamed. Overall the prices for the menu were expensive for basic or simple food. The staff were friendly and were doing their best during the peak times.

Wait times are excruciating, the views would have been nice of Rocky Harbour but I believe we were stuck in the overflow dining room facing the road. This restaurant doesn't serve liquor. The only saving grace is the food (fish and chips) was stellar.

As an Englishman who has traveled the world, I have to say the pan fried fish and chips with scallops is the finest I have ever tasted. the freshest fish pan-fried in scrunchions and scallop's cooked to perfection is a meal you have to try. Ask for the fisherman's Platter it is worth every penny ! As for Deserts, the blueberry cheesecake was to die for. Also hats off to the staff at Earl's, can't remember all the names but they do a fantastic job.
Thank you
Ian

Too doughy, not much taste. Second experience with this pizza chain and it is best to order something else instead.

Arrived 7:30pm, and they were able to seat us within about 10 mins. Wonderful fresh bread, chowder and crab cakes were super. We had the lobster linguini, generous portions, our friends had the cod, vegis and potatoes, all our plates were clean going back to the kitchen. Excellent.

We wanted to have a nice meal on our last night in Gros Morne, and boy, did this place deliver! It's on the pricier end of the scale, but if you are looking for fantastic food and great service (without being pretentious), this is the place! The dining room has views of the bay, and our waitress was excellent, giving her honest recommendations of the menu, and making sure we had everything we needed. We were served with a nice basket of homemade bread and crackers to start, and they also gave us a sampling of an hors d'oeuvres. Our appetizers were great, Caesar salad (which had a refreshingly light vinaigrette dressing) and the seafood chowder. Our main courses were even better, the potato gnocchi and steak. Both were beautifully presented, and the taste was perfect! The steak was so tender, it could be cut with a butter knife, and the flavour in the gnocchi sauce was delicious. We finished the meal off with the steamed chocolate pudding for dessert. What really impressed us was that usually, in places of this price range, you leave still feeling hungry, as the portions are generally small. While not overflowing the plates, the portions here are enough to actually fill you up, without the need to go home and snack afterwards. This was the best meal we had on our vacation, and honestly one of the best we've ever had!

Local Crafts, Local Knitted Goods, Great Food and Coffee
Surprised to see this ranked number one. Service was good but not the food. Fish cakes were scant on the fish burnt and quite bland. Toutons were soggy and greasy. Beans uneventful and omelette ho hum
Hope we hit a bad day

A family owned restaurant specializing in traditional Newfoundland cooking.
The menu is mostly seafood but if you call early in the day a chicken or beef dinner can be arranged. The poached salmon was delicious, served with corn chowder, potatoes and vegetables. Dessert, coffee and tea are included. The portions are generous. Everyone was welcoming and very friendly.

This establishment is a rustic and homey 2-story restaurant. We ate upstairs, which houses booths and tables with chairs made from kegs. They were cute, but the low backs were not the more comfortable for eating. There is also outdoor dining for those warm summer days.
The food was EXCELLENT! We started with the quinoa salad, which had edamame, raisins, red onions, mango, peppers topped off with a light dressing and was DELICIOUS and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
We also tried the moose pie, which was accompanied with a nice-size salad topped with fresh strawberries and Mandarin oranges lightly dressed. The moose has a very beefy flavor and I would have never known it was moose had I not ordered it myself. It was in a dark brown sauce and encased in a nice thick pie crust.
For dessert, we had the partridge berry shortcake. A nice ending to a YUMMY meal!

We didn't stay at Sugar Hill Inn, so I can only review the restaurant. There were 5 of us and 1 child in our party and I'm sure we all walked away happy. All facets of our meal
were fantastic. The courses had Newfoundland tradition with the right mixture of new cuisine. The service was top notch as well. The muscles and the lamb were the favorite at the table.
