We've searched here at TripAdvisor for a good spot for a meal in the area and this came up. Great suggestion.
I've had Plumas, my colleges had Jantar de Grão, Abanicos, Migas and Secretos. All dishes quite typical from this area. All dishes where great.
The whole menu is strictly local typical food and wines.
Service is very caring, and the location is great, in the middle of the Alentejo "Desert". Awesome loungy outside area.
I will return for sure!
Thank you!

At lunch time you can park your car infront of the restaurant.
The boss, Mr. José Lob, will ask you for your wishes and of course he will translate the portuguese menu.
You only can pay cash. Credit cards are not accepted.
We have ordered cod fish. And as a second main it was ordered lamb. It was served with cooked potatoes and sauce. Both meals were average. For starters we have ordered local ham which was okay. Wine in bottles is offered at fair prices. This is valid for all prices in the menu. The red wine Villa Santa Reserva 2013 has had a good taste and was charged with about 15, 00 €. Of course the boss is friendly and caring.
The ambiance is average.
If you stay in the neighborhood you should give this restaurant a try.

Very good restaurant , nice food , good portions , "steak paradise " . Been there several times and always enjoyed the food and the service . Very good menu where the main attraction is the steak . Recommend .

First night eatery for us on our 2 week holiday, it is approximately 10 minutes from Ourique on the IC1 towards Faro. Plenty of parking. We actually wanted the Novo Coimbra (see review - closed Tuesday) which is next door. This was a great alternative, small and friendly and typically Portuguese, again a limited menu but all cooked on an indoor BBQ in front of you in an open kitchen. Bread olives and cheese and a large glass of wine each, followed by pork, salad and chips, huge portions again, great quality and beautiful cooked and presented. Waitress didn’t speak English (which isn’t a problem for us) but she was very friendly and attentive. Total 29.10€. We ate twice at this restaurant which speaks for itself.

We had a lovely plate of traditional porco preto (black pig) at the Escondidinho restaurant. Really I would advise having a half dose/portion unless you're ravenous. The owner and chef were both very pleasant and welcoming and we have heard nothing but good reviews from the locals since Maria da Luz took over. NB the restaurant is open for lunches daily, and only a couple of evenings a week.
Many thanks for a lovely evening, Maria.

Really excellent restaurant tucked away off the main street. Friendly owner and charming setting. delicious local produce very reasonably priced. The servings are huge and freshly prepared. We selected baked cod and 2 of the pork dishes: absolutely excellent.
Beautiful local cheeses and butter too with the really lovely local bread. overall, fantastic!

About 10Ks off the A2 so stopped at Ourike to break up the journey from Lisbon to the Algarve. Failed to find the top rated restaurants so stopped here as handy for the main route in and out.
Service was good and food ok - nothing special but filling. As you might expect no English spoken so bring you your dictionary or just go for it!
