Likely better to share dishes as the portion size is big! Other diners had some very spectacular dishes delivered flaming to their tables. Menu gives a good indication of the heat and you select heat by number of chillies. Friendly service and relaxed environment to chat and eat.

Set in the parklike grounds of Orewa House under the backdrop of eaves Bush.Insde Seating for 50 plus outside weather permitting another 50.Resevations reccommended
My family and I just had brunch at Walnut Cottage. What a lovely setting for young kids. Coffee was good and everyone's meals were tasty enough- BLT, Pancakes, Omelette and Eggs Benny. Everything just feels a little overpriced. $4.50 for a Long Black and $11 for kids brekky is pretty steep. Doesn't encourage me to return as a local.

Always go here for my fish and chips. Worth the often 15-20 minute wait at peak times. They are served with lemon wedges and always a wide variety of fresh fish - there are a few tables available but most people walk the 50 metres to the beach opposite to have a sea view with their takeaways

Situated at the heart of Orewa Beach, We have a great variety of Food & Beverages, all cooked in our own unique style we specialize in fresh seafood and steak. Bring the family along and enjoy our hospitality.
You are spoilt for choice in Orewa - we spent a while checking venues we had sourced on Trip Advisor for a farewell family dinner one of which was here - we booked a good table in a quiet corner and returned that evening - the food was all we had hoped for - good sized portions - the seafood pasta dish even larger - the fish good and my sons meat lovers pizza great - friendly service and reasonable prices made to a great evening - we also tried some of the 'on tap' beers which were also good - landlubbers delight.

We have visited on a number of occasions recently sometimes just for coffee or sometimes for breakfast.
The staff are always friendly, and attentive. The jug of cold water and glasses arrive unbidden as you sit down.
Coffee is great, the food is tasty and the portions are big. Prices are, if anything , on the low side given the cafe’s superb location.
I guess I’ve answered my implied question in the title.

Great little cafe, all home made food, right in the heart of Orewa on the main road, Hibiscus Coast Highway, next door to Cobblestone Fashions right opposite the beach
After seeing great reviews from this place I thought I'd check it out. Both coffees we ordered were terrible and the Carmel slice just tasted of condensed milk. I heard a staff member mention to a customer that they were short staffed so hopefully this was where the issue came from but I certainly won't be going back

I was here for lunch, a single. Must have been unusual or undesired for a single female to want lunch. I was sat in a separate part of the restaurant away from other diners and the workings of the sushi bar. Mistake no.1. Not another soul who arrived was sat in the same area. I felt marooned. I ordered a sparkling sake, I got addicted to this while travelling in Japan, delish, what can I say !!! I ordered the Seafood Bento box for $26.00. Apart from having ordered and brought my food I was ignored. Ms unsmiling Japanese waitress couldn't be more stand offish if she tried. The salmon sashimi was fresh and wonderful with thick lushious slices and came on a separate plate to "the Box" which had the usual assortment well known for a Bento. Teriyaki seafood mix, fish Katsu but the tempura could probably been drained of the cooking oil for a little longer. It was not as good as the dinner I had on another visit with my daughter. Maybe being sat in the empty corner of the restaurant added to the lack of feeling a part of the gastro experience. I know Japanese servers in Japan aren't supposed to communicate with the patrons but Ms unsmiling should be told she's in New Zealand and we love to communicate, even if only to ask if we're enjoying our meal. For heavens sake sit the singles with the rest of the eating patrons so you can at least have some visual entertainment... Didn't happen. The food was wonderful the service was perfunctory only..

This was a great find for us staying one night in Orewa. We thought the prices were very reasonable. We had the spanakopita (Filo pastry stuffed with spinach and cheese) for $23... very yummy ! And enough with the calamari for two people. Service was good and I think it was one of the last places to stay open on a Tuesday night.
(Go to Olivers cafe next door for breakfast).

We are established toward the lovely ocean view on the Orewa beach. Its a astonishing place for Indian food lover. Please come and try our vary range food menu for the real Indian finger licking taste.
Service I am sorry was poor, a new girl, who did not know the menu, or anything about the food.
So ordering was hard.
The food, as just ok, not a lot to talk about, a few real Indian dishes, mostly Indian designed for locals.
I don't blame a place for doing this, you need to have people sitting on seats.
They did sell Kingfisher beer from the tap.
Its a popular place to go, a big selection of different groups, from young to older.
Orewa, is a holiday town that is now a suburb of Auckland, so it is changing, and Bolliwood, will change as well.
We went with some friends who live and work in Orewa, and are regulars.

Coast Bites and Brews is a craft beer bar based in the beautiful seaside town of Orewa, 35 minutes north of Auckland. Brother bar to Deep Creek Brewing in Browns Bay. We have a full range of our own handmade craft beer as well as guest beers from all over New Zealand available. With a full menu for both adults and the kids there is something for the whole family.
We dined here on a hot muggy night with the only ventilation from wide open windows. Although disappointed with the obviously aged menu, our super smiley waitress kept our glasses filled with $9 (average price) small bottles of beer as we waited. I have to say I am so sick of the hackneyed Boaty McBoat Face rip-offs on menus. It's not funny anymore!
For starters we had the chicken nibbles, which while overly greasy, were good when you are very hungry. The dipping sauce was slightly tasty.
My wife's order of the Gnocchi was unavailable (which we were told about 15 minutes! after we had ordered). I ordered the Calamari with another plate of Flatbread filled with sauces and accompaniments. Both my meals were disappointing. The Calamari were over cooked and rubbery, overly salty, and the accompanying Aioli was tasteless and resembled plain Mayonnaise. My wife ate some of mine too, and agreed with me. I didn't finish it. My flatbreads were also uninspiring and drab with little texture, and only flavoured by the sweet spreads inside them. I couldn't eat more than a few bites of either dishes so ended my dinner uncharacteristically hungry.
As a NZer I am not normally one to complain when the table staff ask you "how was your meal?" This time I said I was unhappy with my meals as the other waitress clearing away the plates could obviously see. There was no empathetic response however, and that apparently was the end of the matter.
On leaving I collected one of their 'How was your visit?' cards that rated service, food, and atmosphere. However there was no explanation of the scale to say which end was positive, and I didn't have confidence that my views would get further than the bin.
I am a firm believer that a dining experience is mostly about the company and the conversation, so I enjoyed my friends and family and didn't let it spoil my night. Won't return or recommend Coast to anyone however.
