Just across the Rhine River from Dusseldorf, Neuss was founded by the Romans in 16 B.C., as the military colony of Novaesium, making it one of Germany's oldest Roman settlements. The town thrived in the Middle Ages, and in the late 15th century staved off the Siege of Neuss by Burgundian leader Charles the Bold. Museum Insel Hombroich is one of the city's main attractions, a unique venue fusing nature, art and architecture amid the heavy industrialization of the Rhine-Ruhr area.

for me, though it's not glamorous at all, it's the best Restaurant in Duesseldorf.
Highly sophisticated art of cooking (international base) on the one hand, highly sophisticated in the other hand for "regional" food. Always changing menu, no boredom at all. Though the location is not glamorous and though you cannot make a reservation, I queue up. There's j just one other Restaurant in the world, in Paris, where I queue up. Hoping that it will be better in the future with a new location just beside I will go on queuing...

Any restaurant packed to near capacity on a Tuesday night and with a clientele of mature loyalists must be doing something right.
Service is theatrical, food varied and flavoursome. We shared mixed starters as recommended by Amici which helped with the choice and then had individual mains. Both fish and meat choices were consumed with equal passion. Biscotti with coffee a delight.

in such restaurant you feel immediately right. Spontaneously friendly and competent service. Limited but nice choice of dishes. Visible that they work here with fresh products, now the focus was on asparagus. The soup and the risotto were good but the best was the dessert : a chocolate mousse made with olive oil and served with strawberries. Good choice of wines per glass. Very good ratio price/quality

Unless you periodically travel to Dusseldorf for one of their numerous trade fairs and shows and once in a while decide to book your hotel late, you will never come across this Greek restaurant in Neuss. I will explain… By the time we decided to travel to Dusseldorf for the Prowein 2015, every last single hotel in the city was booked solid, so we had to scramble to find something nearby, within a taxi or a train ride. The hotel that was available and was not outrageously expensive was Mercury in Neuss Norf. The Greek restaurant Karyatis is located right near the train station of this tiny little suburban town. We stumbled upon it, returning from the first day of the wine show. We were tired, hungry and it was right there.
At almost 11pm, the place was packed with locals – we took it as a very good sign. The one drawback of the restaurant being tacked away from the usual tourist path is the absence of any English menus. The staff did not speak a word of English either. And unfortunately, neither of us spoke any German. As a matter of fact, if it was not for one of the regular customers and his wife, who happened to speak some English, we would have probably ended up ordering all the wrong things. The menu was in German and Greek! But that’s where the weird and the confusing ended.
Upon sitting down we were immediately served shots of ouzo as a welcome beverage – I thought it was a nice touch. After consulting with the customer, we ordered our starter dishes and the main course. In a few minutes, the waiter brought us some fabulous German bread and butter. Shortly thereafter we received our appetizers… and then our main course – the food was simply exceptional!
Menu: if you can read Greek or German, they have a great selection of traditional Greek dishes with a touch of European flair. The portions are huge and very close to those served in the States. My friend had the shrimp in a tomato sauce as an appetizer and a pepper steak as his main dish. I had the mushrooms in a cheese sauce and a Zipura fish for the main course. We capped off our diner with a traditional Greek dessert – yogurt with honey and walnuts. Every single dish was to die for! The shrimp in a tomato sauce was very delicate and well balanced. My mushroom appetizers were quite good, but a bit too rich for my diet – the combination of cheese and cream made it almost a main course. While the pepper steak was absolutely great, the Zipura dish was out of this world! They served the whole fish, baked, with some spinach and lightly fired potatoes. If you like seafood and fish, you simply must try this dish!!
Beverages: we were coming back from an intense day of wine tasting so we did not carefully examine their wine list, but at first glance it looked decent, with a fair amount of by-the-glass wine choices and the usual array of German beer.
Price: for the quality of food and a lovely ambiance, the prices were quite reasonable.
How to get there: S11 train going North from “Dusseldorf Hbf” – it is exactly a 42min ride to Neuss Norf (North.) Or, if you prefer a cab, it’s a 15min ride and would cost you about 20-30 euros, depending on the time of the day and traffic intensity.
The bottom line is, if you are up for some exceptionally good and very reasonably priced Greek food while in Dusseldorf or Neuss, Karyatis should be on your gastronomic itinerary!

Heinemann's has a wide selection of breakfasts including yogurt and fruit, grilled salmon, herring and potatoes, smoked salmon, eggs and much more. My only criticism is that they didn't have low fat milk or yogurt that was less than 3.5% fat. The waiter was very friendly. They have an English-language menu -- just ask.

Very good food even though the menu is a bit on the small side. We had small family reunion luncheon and the staff was friendly and in no hurry to get us "out the door". Would definitely return.

Had the vegetable soup and spaghetti bolognese while on a business trip to Dusseldorf. Honest home cooked food and welcoming service. Not such a tourist spot so English is not so strong but good enough if you had a little German or Italian language to spare.

A group of us visited Im Dom while on a business trip.
The ambience is pleasant and friendly the minute you walk in.
The gentleman who served us was full of energy, friendly and joked with us throughout the meal.
The food was typical German: lots of meat, potatoes, some salads and quite tasty.
The 'second oldest beer in the world' was delicious. Go for the large glasses, as the small ones are VERY small.
