This restaurant is a very nice place. Several rooms elegantly decorated with ancient furniture and a very pleasant and cool roof-top Terrace overlooking the Guadiana river. Original and tasty starters. Most main courses are unfortunately served with French fries. The service is very kind

We visited for dinner in the weekend and fortunately made a reservation as the restaurant quickly got very full. The waiter is very friendly and always cracking jokes, the food was great and service very efficient. The decoration is also lovely and the atmosphere light and pleasant.

Lokal am Ortseingang von Mertola
Had a great lunch here, sun was shining through the windows onto the Terrace, white wine was chilled and enjoyed. Food was great, we had poached whiting with veg and bread and cheese, it was cooked really well. Prices were good. Choc mousse was excellent. Service was excellent. Perfect spot for a lazy, boozy lunch.

Reliably excellent authentic regional dishes with finest ingredients. Local wines of highest quality. These wines rival the best of France. Great ambience. English is spoken if Eduardo is home and working; or if his wife Fatima is in that evening. Otherwise Manuel seems to understand by osmosis. After all, his business is pleasing customers. Evocative photos on the wall by younger son Joao. And the prices are rural Alentejo not psuedo-British Algarve.

We wanted to eat at Alengarve but it was their day off (Wednesday). We reluctantly went to O Repuxo. We are familiar with Portuguese restaurants and were expecting the local Couvert starter set to be served. However they served their version of "tapas" as a starter without either our requesting it or they offering it!!! To pass the time we decided to eat it. Tasteless would be a generous word for the cheese and I dont know how I could describe the bits of meat to you but at €5 it was very poor value. The couvert was €2 for 2 pieces of butter, the bread was €1, olives €1 which was €4 for couvert compared to the usual prices in other restaurants of €2 or max €3. The main courses at €14 for steak and €9 for lamb stew were similar to the processed cheese, a bit tasteless. Luckily we were on holiday (and we were not on a tight budget) and were able to afford their food which was more expensive than almost all other restaurants we have been to in Portugal. Unfortunately the overall impression was very disappointing. We have found almost every Portuguese restaurant to be of a high if not very high standard. Including salad €4 and 2 small bottles of beer €2.20 the bill came to €38.20 and for Portugal thats above average and sadly was not really enjoyable. We had dinner twice in Alengarve and the price of €26 for our meal was €12.20 cheaper and the quality in Alengarve as with many other restaurants in Portugal was far superior to O Repuxo.

Didn't expect much based on interior and the owner (?), he seemed not very interested and didn't seem to speak English. The younger wait staff was nice though. Our waiter spoke good English, offered to help with any questions about the menu (only Portuguese). I had a pizza and my bf had pork preto with salad and fries. He finished before I did and the waiter brought to more pieces of pork ad more fries, no charge.
They had a homemade dessert of layers of cookies with a mousse in between, very good. Chocolate mousse was great as well. When we asked the check the guy grapped pen and notebook and from memory he created the bill and added all the costs. Have not seen that before.

Very well placed with a good service, but the quality of the food is average, far away from the intensity of Alentejo Cuisine.
We ordered Açorda com posta de bacalhau e Pezinhos de coentrada, but both dishes shown a profound lack of intensity in flavours, essential in Alentejo Cuisine

We had loads of grilled meet (game, black pork, Angus beef) and loads of side dishes (huge salad, french fries, beans, steamed vegetables). All perfectly cooked in a simple but traditional environment. Spent less than 30 Euros drinks/coffee and desert included. Wunderful experience. Very nice people who run the place. Will never forget.

local restaurant serving locals and travellers on the main restaurant oval "circuit". Good regional food served cheerfully - grilling outside in good weather. you can also sit outside and watch everyone (well, not many!) passing by. Inside the decor is the traditional whitewash and blue trim, often with the ubiquitous football matches on TV for the locals.
