What a wonderful place to escape the heat and craze of the markets in Stone Town! The Zanzibar women who work here were friendly, colorful and smiling....and one was a great barista. Served with a nice selection of daily baked goods and other snacks, you can while away an hour or two easily here. Management was kind and attentive to be sure all our expectations were met. I suggested they find paper straws to replace the plastic ones served, like Emerson Spice and some of the other cafes who have started to be more eco friendly, and she immediately went online to find some to order. I hope they get them soon....every little way that plastic can be eliminated is good for this beautiful island surrounded by the Indian Ocean. Thank you Zanzibar Coffee House Cafe!

Emerson Spice have two Restaurants: The Rooftop Tea House Restaurant - The Seafood Based, Set Five Course 'Taste Safari' Degustation Menu is prepared daily by our Zanzibari Chefs. The Sunset Hour is an integral part of the experience, so Diners are encouraged to arrive at any time after 5.30p.m. to enjoy a 'Sundowner' before dinner, which is served at 7p.m. Reservations Recommended. The Secret Garden - set amidst lushly landscaped hidden 'Ruins', open to the skies, it has a Zanzibari inspired A La Carte Menu. Look out for live music performed by The Dhow Countires Music Academy. Open for Lunch and Dinner.
It’s on the Terrace of Emerson Spice hotel, on the 4th floor. The place it’s not exactly special but the 5 course dinner was really really good. Very interesting combinations, the menu changes every day.
The service is very good as well.
Reservation is required as it’s a small place.
I just don’t recommend for people that have issues to climb a lot of steps.

Ignore the pedestrian interior and workaday decor. This place has some of the best gelato I've had outside Italy. The pizza was surprisingly good too! We were lucky in that we were staying at the DoubleTree Hilton right next door, so we'd visit two or...MoreAsante sana!!! Grazie!!

Fresh lobster. Good service. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. We were taken by our taxi driver, otherwise not easy to find restaurant.

We serve fresh made, locally sourced, organic where possible, food. Spices and salads we grow mostly ourselves. Here you can enjoy the best seafood, a solid steak, Vegetarian.... Indian/Zanzibari, Mediterranean/Italian. We also take care of special dietary needs. Our bar serves fresh made juices, smoothies, cocktails, mocktails and much more.
I loved the cozy atmosphere and especially the rooftop lounge area. They take their food seriously and pride themselves in their talented chefs. Their beef burger was excellent as well as their large portions of tasty pasta and seafood. They have something on the menu to suit everyone's tastes. They also make delicious homemade jams at breakfast. I would recommend this to anyone looking for some good food, nice atmosphere and reasonable prices to stop in and check it out if you are in Kiwengwa.

The highest "tea house" restaurant in Zanzibar town is located in Emerson on Hurumzi and has breathtaking 360* views of Stone Town and the Indian Ocean. There is only one sitting for dinner and service begins promptly at 19.00, but we welcome guests from 18.00 to enjoy the spectacular sunset views of sea and city. Dinner in the Tea House restaurant at Emerson on Hurumzi is by reservation only and, as there is only limited Seating, a deposit is required for the booking's confirmation. The Cuisine in the Tea House restaurant is designed to marry the culture and style of the building with the distinct culinary heritage of the era, our menu celebrates the pleasure of oriental Persian and Omani dishes. Musicians from Dhow Country Music Academy play during dinner Saturdays and on pre-booking for groups.
You need to make a dinner reservation a few days in advance or have luck at the last minute if someone cancels. Very good food and at reasonable set price of $30/person. If possible ask for the "pillow seating" - it adds to the experience.

The Puzzle Coffee Shop will be a one of a kind coffee house located in Shangani, Stone Town, Zanzibar. We just love coffee and we will brew the awesome Tanzanian Coffee with a “Brazilian Style”. The Puzzle Coffee Shop aptly named for the place that people can connect with others and make relationship. A good place where people can talk, socialize with others and enjoy an awesome coffee, juices and pastries. Our service will be focused on providing the products on time.
Tucked away in an alley off the main touristy area (and next to the crumbling house of one of the most famous spice merchants in East African history) is a very hip and relaxing cafe.
“Don’t Answer Me” by Alan Parsons Project was playing when I walked in. How cool is that?
Nice coffee, great service. Super hip.

Roof top restaurant overlooking the old city of Stone Town and the indian ocean. The Taarab, offers scrumptious breakfasts by day and transforms into a romantic, atmospheric a la carte restaurant by sun-down offering outside Terrace and indoor sittings.
On the way to the restaurant we meet chef Alex in the elevator and he was very professional and extremely polite. The food was excellent and I have to say praise to our waitress Kalista. She had a smile the whole time and had the best recommendations. Continue with the great work!

LOCAL FOOD at LOCAL PRICE Delicious local food in a typical local stone town building with cozy and chilling ambiance, including a variety of drinks and beverages. We also serve different types of coffees, shakes and smoothies.
I’ve got a cast iron digestive system from years of travel. I’m not sure I can safely say there is a connection but I had a very brisk walk back to a bathroom.
The reviews for this place built up our expectations a bit too much. It was a decent cheap eats spot but we left having not understood the hype.
Service was a bit confused and slow and our bill came out very fast. Like rude fast. Like while we were still eating.
We were there during the afternoon shoulder at around 2:30pm so maybe one of the chefs was on break?
I think there is better food on the island away from the sunburnt touristy strip.
