Beydi (?), ground lamb in rolls with yogurt sauce, grilled tomatoes, Anaheim Chile and bulgar on the side... moist and delicious! Other dish of large rounds of eggplant with small patties of ground lamb kebab wasn't as satisfying... be sure to remove the eggplant skin before eating it though.
Six country boys in red vests are clueless about service but the upstairs dining room to which you are pushed to is surprisingly pleasant.
Very popular with the local professional class.

We have been to this restaurant twice during a weekend stay in Kars. They offer both local food and other typical meals like pasta, kebab, salads etc. I tasted Turkish ravioli, Fettuccine Alfredo and salad. All were superb! No need to look for other options in the city!

Restaurant was recommended by our hotel. We wanting to have pide as it was quite some time we didn't had it. Excellent and abondant pide for a very low price (26 TRY for 2). Antep seems to have a few restaurants around (named Antep 3, etc.) but this one is maybe more centrally located.

Han-i Hanedan is a slightly sterile, but nevertheless amazing establishment in Kars. The food, even dishes like kebab, is a real treat here. The pleasant staff is talking well enough English for explanation about the food and a nice chitchat. The local wines are quite different from other Turkish wines I've tasted, but proved a positive surprise. Would definitly recommend!

Of course locals know about this restaurant on the lake CIdIr, where you can taste local fresh fish. Good and honest and unpretencious cuisine, there are tables outside with a view on the beautiful lake and mountanous steppes, as well as inside. Need yoyr own transportation.

I have been to this restaurant twice: first one was back in summer 2012 and we were a large group of 30 people and I had not enjoyed it back then. But we visited it again this winter as a group of 5 and this time, our experience was outstanding.
Atalay'in Yeri, this cosy place, is the only restaurant on the shores of Çıldır Lake, the second biggest lake of the region. In summertime, it's all green, never too hot, even chilly most of the time. But in winter time, it's a wonderland: whole lake is frozen (the thickness of the ice was 62 cm at the time we were there), white color dominates everywhere. Just in front of the restaurant, there are horse carts organized for a tour on the frozen lake, that's a great experience. The tour for two costs only 25.- TL. So, when you go to this restaurant, it's not only the meal you enjoy but also the nature and this entertainment in winter.
The meals served are fixed: yellow fish (found only in this lake), salad, pickles, bread and a dessert prepared with sesame oil. As the lake is 100 km of distance to Kars, by the time you get there, you are hungry and this delicious meal sounds like a feast. But, from experience I can say that it's best to go there with a small group: when it's too crowded, the quality of the fish cooking deteriorates. On the other hand, the prices are incredibly cheap: for 5 people we paid only 135.- TL including the alcoholic beverages.
Last but not least, make sure you reserve a place before you go: as this is the only restaurant at the region, you might not find a table otherwise.

11 of us turned up here on the recommendation of our hotel. We hadn't booked, and it was a Saturday night, but the hosts welcomed us in and pulled some tables together with huge smiles. The atmosphere is calm, relaxed and warm: it really is just like being in Granny's front parlour! The family explained that because it was the 2nd January and they'd had big groups in over New Year, they didn't have a full menu to offer us. But, they suggested, they could bring us samples of local Kars dishes if we wanted.
Of course we agreed, and what followed was a truly once in a lifetime experience. We had Reyhan - a pink juice made from basil. We had stuffed vine leaves, and cabbage leaves. We had pickles, salad, and 2 different kinds of soup. That was followed by pasta, lentils, and manti. We had speciality water-buffalo yoghurt. Then spicy kofte & potatoes, and fabulous local speciality goose. By the time they offered dessert, nit one of us was in a state to accept. We finished with tea - fresh, and sitting waiting for us on the stove in the middle of the room.
Through all of this the family smiled happily, explained to us what we were eating, encouraged us to try new things, and kept refilling plates. When closing time (9pm) came we were still sat comfortably, and there was no hint of asking us to leave. And the bill (42tl per person) was ridiculously cheap given the amount we'd eaten.
Highly recommended: it's a few minutes walk out of town, but well worth the effort. And if you get the chance to eat 'off-menu', do it!

Afiyetler olsun...
