Idstein (German pronunciation: [ˈʔɪtʃtaɪn]) is a town of about 25,000 inhabitants in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis in the Regierungsbezirk of Darmstadt in Hesse, Germany. Because of its well preserved historical Altstadt (Old Town) it is part of the Deutsche Fachwerkstraße (German Timber-Frame Road), connecting towns with fire fachwerk buildings and houses. In 2002, the town hosted the 42nd Hessentag state festival.

For us, it is all about the chips and salsa. And when I go to a Mexican restaurant, I want those thin, warm, somewhat greasy tortilla chips with salsa that tastes like salsa. That is not what we got at La Cazuela. It's very typical for Mexican restaurants in Europe to serve those "tortilla chips" that are more like seasoned dorritos and that is exactly what we got. We ordered three dips - a cheese, guacamole and salsa and they came out in cups that held about 2 tablespoons each. We were disappointed right away. The great cocktail prices somewhat make up for the lack of true chips and salsa but there are other great restaurants that I'd choose if in Idstein again at mealtime.

I really recommend this small but really beautiful place in the historical Aldstad of Idstein. Everything has the taste of traditional home kitchen, from the furniture to the dishes.
Different options from German kitchen where to chose from and a nice blackboard with the dishes of the day, all from the area and all fresh made.
The spargelcreme with Salmon that I had was more than delicious, so was the pork meat with strawberry or ribes sauce.
The service was helpful and friendly and they tried to explain us the information of the main dishes also in English.
Allow yourself some time cause the dishes are made at the moment and so they can take a while.

My colleague and I were treated to excellent weather and enjoyed sitting outside. After a warm welcome our waiter was very patient with all of our questions on the menu and he also helped us with a translation when needed. He recommend and excellent choice of wine to go with my very tasty vegetarian ravioli. Overall a great experience and a reasonable meal in a town with relatively expensive eating options.

A quiet Sunday night in Idstein with little open for dinner, so tried the Italian.
Food was very average - not great - not bad...
As a chef, I cook Italian food regularly having worked with a classically trained Italian chef, and this was not special in any way...
Beware: they added 19% tax to the menu prices on the bill - possibly because we were obviously tourists!
Not recommended.

This is a very nice restaurant, with a comfortable small Biergarten in the courtyard. It specializes in food made with potatoes, but has a good variety of meat entrees along with vegetarian.
The food was very tasty, service was quite prompt, portions are very generous, and the staff is very friendly.
After a satisfying meal, I'd highly recommend you try the "Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmus" for dessert. It consists of three thin fried potato pancakes with a moderately sweet applesauce on top, not heavy but rather just right to complete the meal.

The beer selection isn't huge, but both the Idsteiner Hell and Dunkel are tasty. Great interior, with the brewery equipment on view. Seating available at the bar or at tables. Staff are welcoming. Wine is also served. Food is served. Attractive outdoor Seating area, too. Convenient location, near the Hexenturm.

One of two restaurants in the area. Three tables. Charming simple decor with excellent service and very tasty food! Gal could not speak English. No English menus. I may be a bit egocentric, but the door had the TripAdvisor sign on it in English so an English menu would be in order. :) Otherwise, we all did our best and so did she!
Waitress spoke German and Russian. My husband knows a little of each and the etymology of some words made ordering possible to a degree. I am sure everything is delicious as the food we saw coming out of the kitchen for the other two tables smelled and looked scrumptious. Our food was very tasty. Husband really wanted potatoes but got barley! Haha! I would definitely recommend the restaurant if you are in the area - but I would have likely ordered more if menu was in English. (Oh, dear! Have I come to expect that everywhere? No. But I can usually figure out the menu. Not this one. Lots on it!)
