The Mediéval occupies an 11th-century building built on the left bank of the Agout River; you enter from the first street to the east — the door is a few steps below street level. We chose this restaurant because one of our party had been here ten years ago and had a very positive memory of it. We weren’t disappointed. Its name refers both to the date of its building and to its ambience: the room has a vaulted ceiling supported by arches, thick walls, an old wooden cabinet, and some medievalish decorations. The main room holds about fourteen tables; a further couple of tables are in an adjoining alcove, and a porch overlooking the river allows a couple of small tables, used seasonally. The tables are placed fairly close to one another but the feeling isn't quite cramped, especially as only four other tables were being used. The white tablecloths and sturdy chairs enhance to the comfortable feeling. We were greeted warmly for lunch, and the daily specials were explained to us. The 17€ menu of the day seemed good value. There were no choices. It began with a light and tasty fish mousse on salad greens with vegetables; this was the most creatively conceived and interesting part of the meal. It was followed by a "plat" of Turkey with a particularly notable mushroom gravy and mixed mashed potatoes. The dessert was pears in a rich caramel cream. As others have noted, the portions are generous. Nothing could have done better, though I’d reinforce what another reviewer says, that with the gravy, mash, and caramel cream dessert, this was by no means a low-fat meal. Good crusty rolls were given us and replenished. We included a bottle of recent Gaillac wine, modestly priced. Service was quite friendly, but, as other reviewers have noted, sometimes a bit slow, since the staff is small. (Accordingly, I've rated the service "average", but it was much better than average in warmth.) We were in no hurry, though, and didn’t mind. Given its pleasant setting and and comfortable room, the friendliness of the staff, the good value, and the very interestingly conceived and well prepared (though rich) food, I’d recommend the Mediéval to others.

Even if you you feel that the chef is doing his best, the customer will not feel comfortable in a place where they do not say hello when enter, do not take your coat (you have to keep in behind your chair) and where the lady owner seems to have an attitude with the people she does not know...

Situated on the bank of the Agout river in the center of Castres. The b. Sushi proposes a world fusion of the japanese sushis and makis with the "french touch".Fresh, organic, tasty and creative sushis. All of our creations are made with selected and local products.Taste the difference you will enjoy it.
My husband wanted to check this place out, and since I don't enjoy sushi, I made Reservations at a different restaurant for myself later in the night. Once I saw what he ordered, I canceled the Reservations, described what I don't like about sushi to the owner, and Voilà! Not long after, I had the most incredible and inventive plate before me, and I loved every bite! My husband, who eats sushi every chance he can get, said it ranked among the best of his life. I only wish there were more gems like this to be found...

Amazing...
Very small restaurant so probably best to book. Run by a very friendly couple who made us most welcome. Three interesting courses (including Kangaroo!) were very attractively presented at at €15 represented great value.

Lovely boutique restaurant with well thought-out imaginative menus. Great ambiance and attentive service . Thoroughly recommended ! Chef, in my view, is a star with bigger opportunities on the horizon in not too distant future - check out his creations now -- you will not be disappointed at a price well below established Michelin- recognised equivalents.

The staff is very welcoming and the service was great.
2 great dishes out of 4.
Then let's speak about food!
4 course menu, quite classic dishes not very creative.
A delicious amuse bouche, panacotta and goat cheese. This was waouh!!!!
First the starter, crumble foie gras. I was highly seduced by the name. Very nice presentation but the foie gras was not that good. Quite a piety if you take into consideration that duck is an important specialty in this department. The crumble standalone was good but mixed on top of the foie gras slice, it was too sugary and overcoming the foie gras taste. And believe me I am a fan of the mix sweet and sour.
Then the salmon with asparagus and fennel. It was just perfectly cooked! The salmon was of a very good quality. Delicous vegetables, crunchy. Very nice plate presentation.
Then the meat, beef with vegetables. Same here perfectly cooked and well arranged. Butter in your mouth. The sauce was very classic, no surprises here. Again lovely presentation.
The dessert, pistachio, liquorice, strawberry opera cake.
Too much pistachio mixed in a butter cream. Quite an overdose of sugar. Dessert not well balanced with mix of fruits/flavor. Served with roten marshmallows, again too much taste of sugar only
Lovely tastefull homemade breads; perfumed with different flavor.
The wine was very good too.
I will go again!

We ate here on the first night of our visit to Castres. The food was very very good - particularly the ravioli. The wine was exceptionally good value and service was first class. The decor is, perhaps, a little tired and would benefit from a little more lighting. Well worth a visit.

Needless to say, this being France, this veggie restaurant features a lorry load of meat on its menu.
Don't bother to try and make sense of the pricing strategy. Not unless you have the latest Stephen Hawking with you and an aptitude for nuclear physics.
Nice food which is well presented.

We went with another couple who we were staying with outside Castres to say thanks and it was recommended by locals.
The service was good pricing good and atmospheric.
I had the 26 euro set menu and it was large it consisted of 4 courses and I thought they might be small servings but they were not. The cheese platter was to die.
The wine was priced well.
