Restaurant, deli, lovely garden- homely and feel the real country life. Open from 07h30 until late - try our traditional meals, pizzas, grills.
We had to wait 90 minutes for 3 toasted sandwiches and 15 minutes for pot of tea
The restaurant was quiet but they do takeaways and it would appear that those orders take precedence over sit down customers

This is a wonderful coffee shop and restaurant making homemade breads and serving delicious breakfasts and home made delecacies.
This is an interesting shop and restaurant with delicious home baked breads and cakes. Unfortunately our lunch of pickled fish was a little disappointing - the fish was tough and cooked in too much batter. But service was great from a host of friendly waiters.

An opportunity not to be missed, whilst travelling along the Route 62! In the town that makes Port Wine, we have opened a lovely Portuguese Restaurant, that specializes in Portuguese/African dishes. Voted in the top 10 restaurants in the Little Karoo region in 2014 and top 500 in SA! Local Art work on display. We bake fresh Portuguese bread daily.
The soup was very very Portuguese relying heavily on beans and root vegetables with delicious olive oil drizzled on it. A bit heavy for summer but delicious. The queen prawns and accompanying garlic and chilli butter was delicious. The garlic prawn stater and espedata equally...MoreThank you so much for your positive feedback, which we really appreciate. Hope you will be back to try the pasteis de nata. Kind regards Owners Deon and Mize

Die Handelshuis is a vibrant and eclectic restaurant, famous for tasty homemade karoo lamb pies, carrot and cheese cake and superb barrista espresso coffees. We have daily specials boards for light luncheons and evening meals and take pride in our attention to detail using only the finest & freshest ingredients. We have gorgeous garden salads, soup specials ( chilled soups in our hot summers) and our "fall off the bone lamb shank" and tender fillet steaks with our superb sauces are proof of our constant pursuit of excellence.
We were looking for a light meal on Sunday evening. After deciding not to eat at the recommended venue we passed Die Handelshuis. Being extremely hot inside we sat outside on the veranda. When we asked about a light meals menu they brought us the...MoreWe are so glad you enjoyed your evening with us. Thank you for taking the time to review us we really appreciate. The downside for the Spekboom Country Kitchen and Pub in Calitzdorp is that it’s not in the centre of town but is tucked away two minutes off the main road, in a lovely lane of historical cottages known locally as the Rooirand. If you’re looking for real Karoo hospitality and home-cooking at its best, this is truly a dining-experience worth making a detour for. The cosy pub has a traditional bar where you can sit and chat to the locals – or there’s a lovely outdoor patio where, with a glass of local wine in your hand, you can admire the sun setting over the village or the fantastic stars overhead, while you wait for your meal. Judy Ritchie does the cooking herself and is a superb, natural cook. Her menu is not large, but everything is freshly cooked with goodly portions, and attractively presented (with none of that pretentious three blobs and a swirl of red stuff that is supposed to indicate sophistication!), and ranges from salad of the day with feta or mozzarella, through homemade chicken or steak pie, Bobotie, and oxtail with apricot and port sauce. The steak with garlic sauce I had first time around was outstanding, and the slow-roasted lamb-shank with mint sauce and mashed potato on my second visit was – as they say – to leave home for. Imaginative starters – like watermelon soup for instance, and homemade paté with a delicious port and grape-jelly topping – and for pudding, superb apricot crème brûlée, or homemade creamy, baked chocolate pudding with ice cream – complete the menu. This is eating like you’re staying with friends – the service is attentive, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly – and best of all, you don’t have to do the dishes afterwards. Prices compare well with the other restaurants in the village.

Stopped here with a group of colleagues on our way through Calitzdorp for a lunch. Very pretty little outdoor Seating area, but that's about all this place has going for it. Service is slow (although this is to be expected at a small town restaurant), but we weren't served consecutively - those of us who ordered burgers got our food almost 20min before the people who ordered chicken pies. By the time the poor guy who ordered fish and chips received his meal, the entire table had already eaten. This isn't good, considering we were the only patrons at the time.
Furthermore, the burgers (beef, steak and chicken) are basically just giant rolls, with the meat taking up perhaps 60% of the total size of the burger. So essentially you are just eating bread....

We are a South African restaurant that do every thing on the open fire. From a lamb chop to Steak. On a Sunday we do home cooking Buffet that will take you back to your Grandmothers home.
A delightful stopover, for breakfast, lunch, refreshments and what not. My lamb offal was superb, my wife's lamb neck was to die for. Everything you'd expect from a quality perspective, and pleasantly presented and served to boot. Worth returning to, well worth the stop.Thank you for the positive review. The main ingredient in our food is LOVE

We were looking for a unique dining experience with vegan options. This place fit the bill beautifully. Vegan options are a challenge in the Little Karoo but Giovanni's really put extra effort in to satisfy us all.Hi Makayla B Great to hear we could satisfy your needs. We try to accommodate our visitors requests - that extra effort is always a bonus - glad you enjoyed the experience. Kind regards Giovanni and Wendy
