This slightly strange but lovely spa town appears at first glance to be well catered for with restaurants and cafes - closer inspection limits your choices in some ways.
The Wildbader Hof is simply a lovely, friendly and good choice. We arrived after a long drive and needing lunch; this provided the perfect meal, delicious. We sat at one of the outside tables nicely sited by the river, but also alongside a tram track where occasional trams creep gently past, along the generally pedestrian road.
We returned for dinner later and the interior had a real local charm and excellent food. Good choice of mainly local dishes, served by delightful waitresses dressed in traditional outfits.

Decades ago when we first visited the Burg Liebenzell in the Black Forest, I was offered some cake and I asked for Black Forest gâteau. The Swabians were, I think amazed and claimed no knowledge. I was surprised and not a little sceptical. Nowadays this speciality is widely known and what better place to savour it than in the eponymous Black Forest.
The best Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte (literally BlackForest cherry-torte) that I have tasted in years was served at The Cafe am Bad in Bad Wildbad, Baden-Wurttemberg. It is not for the faint-hearted, or slimmers or tea-totallers as the Cherry Liqueur was prominent, the flakes of Chocolate delicious, the cherries near-inebriated and the Cream indulgent, all as it should be.
The Coffee and the wines were fine too
I believe the Cafe owner is off somewhere in Spain and has rented the business out, the new proprietor I think is doing well.
We visited Sunday 29th October, late afternoon

Culinary delights Eating makes us happy! Guests at Mokni's Palais Hotel & SPA can surrender to culinary delights in the impressive surroundings of the "Rossini". Regional specialties such as fresh Black Forest trout from the hotel's basin, or game from nearby Forests, alternate with our international dishes. Inspired by the great composer Rossini, himself a passionate cook, our unique "Tournedos Rossini" are a highlight on the menu. Our own pâtisserie prepares the sweet components for this dish as well as delicious creations for coffee or dessert. Our attractive Terrace also entices fresh air devotees to linger. Whether you are enjoying breakfast or a romantic evening dinner, it is a wonderful place to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Black Forest. Surrounded by lush greenery and next to the glittering waters of the Enz, this is the place to relax while you are indulging in some cake or ice cream.
... there can be a lapse, but if you get three courses it must be good: and that's what happened to us, good three courses, but on the more elaborate (5 and 6 courses) not everything was ok. But the service was best.

It's German home cooking: large portions, quality meat, charming owners, and an English menu about which they're extremely proud. Loyal local clientele. We dined here twice last week while based in Bad Wildbad for the Rossini festival. Perfectly cooked steaks, wonderful schnitzels, classic potatoes. Not much green! No desserts to speak of, apple studel with ice cream, big surprise. It's comfort food at a very good level.

We had dinner there a Thursday evening around 8pm, after visiting the Palais Thermal. The location is really nice, surrounded with trees and with tables outside. The inside looked nice too, with large windows and beautiful light fixtures.
Our waiter was very nice and helpful but service was terribly slow. We ordered delicious cocktails which we received after a long time waiting. We shared an appetizer of grilled shrimps with a curry chutney. It was delicious but way too small to be shared (4 medium sized shrimps in total). We had a Schnitzel with french fries and a "Steak-pocket" stuffed with goat cheese with a side of sauteed potatoes. The Schnitzel was good but dry. The Steak-pocket didn't have a lot of flavor other than the large amount of brown sauce that was poured on top and the potatoes were so salty that I couldn't eat them. I ended up giving the sauce to my partner who needed it for his schnitzel!
We finished dinner so late that we didn't wanna have dessert there anymore and we left. The bill was way too high for the quality of food we had.

This little cafe in the outskirts of Bad Wildbad serves one of the best tarte flambees we ever tried: very crispy, with fresh ingredients, served on rustic wooden plates. The Terrace is nice and there is a little playground nearby. Ideal for a quick meal in a friendly atmosphere. The owner is a very friendly young man who does his best to make you feel welcome.

We had two great stays in the Hotel Hirsch in October this year. The staff is very complaisant and especially Udo, the owner is an extremely helpful, straightforward and kind man. We felt very welcome and enjoyed the sociable atmosphere of the house. What is uncommon for a smaller Hotel like this is, that it had an Elevator - big plus! The room we stayed in at our first stay was arranged friendly, a little folksy and everything was neat and clean. At our second stay we were lodged in the spacious holiday apartment, which included a small "kitchen-area" with fridge and sink. Both, our room and the apartment had a balcony. Free Wifi was available. ... An accomodating and relaxing place with friendly people to stay! Always again!

We stopped here on a motorcycle tour of the Black Forest and were made very welcome. The place is beautifully decorated and the staff were friendly and spoke perfect English which always makes it easier. The cake selection was the best we had all week and the coffee was great. We highly recommend it and this is the only review I have left all week which shows how impressed I am. There is also a toilet for customers. We will come back.
