During our week’s stay in the region we visited several restaurants for evening dinner.
“Bulgaria/Bei Nico” was one of them. Never been to a Bulgarian restaurant before so we were curious as how the menu would be different than other Balkan restaurants we did visit in the past. What followed was a nice surprise.
For a Tuesday evening there were quite a few people inside as we entered around half past seven. A friendly waiter took us to a free table, handed over the menu and served both of us a 2cl glass of ouzo. We both ordered a “Schketo” (tomato-lamb soup) as starter. On the house a mixed salad with bread and four different kinds of sauces was served. Then my wife had a “Misch-masch” (sliced meat with sweet pepper, tomatoes and unions together with a pita bread) as main dish. I myself had a “Topf Sofia” which turned out to be a kind of stew in a ceramic pot with meat balls, pork, lamb, vegetables, egg, sheep’s cheese, salad and Bulgarian potatoes.
We could have chosen the usual grill meats, but we didn’t and we don’t regret.
Very nice food, sweetly spiced, the meat not as greasy as some other Balkan restaurants and all served with a smile and a joke.
Good price/quality, 45 euros for the above, including a 0.3l coke, a 0.5l white beer, a cappuccino and a melnik ice cream (with walnuts and prunes).
“Bei Nico” is some 2 kms south of the centre of Bad Oeynhausen, with plenty of free parking space right next to the entrance.
If ever around here we would surely visit it again.

Having been disappointed on many occasions when visiting restaurants in Germany, this is a gem of a place. The freshest, most wonderful dishes are prepared daily from local produce. A very small select menu choice is offered but all the food is then cooked beautifully to order. Even when a colleague unexpectedly asked for vegetarian, it was not a problem. Attentive staff, good selection of wines and a relaxed atmosphere. From the outside you could easily miss the restaurant and the decor is uninspiring but the food is amazing.

Visiting my German sister in law and family and we always look forward to going out to our local Greek restuarant... However it was shut on Monday :-(
So we had a look on Trip Advisor and saw The Delphi that was only 10 mins down the road.....
...What a discovery :-)
The food in here was wonderful
The service quick but not pushy
We had a party of eight and this was no problem to fit us in
The only slight issue I had (being v tall) was the smaller tables as I felt a bit squashed in...
..However this was not a major issue as the food made up for it
All 8 of us had different choices and all were fantastic with all the plates being cleared even the kids. I had the Hermes platter which was mid blowing.
We all walked away feeling well fed and the price we paid was excellent value for money.
We think we now have a new favorite Greek Restuarant in town.
Already looking forward to our next trip to Germany...
A return visit to The Delphi will be made definitely.
Thank you
:-)
P.s fancy setting up a restuarant in England near me please ;-)

Having failed to make an early reservation, we managed to talk our way in at an odd time in the evening. With all tables fully occupied, the staff managed to serve us in an excellent way. With Perfect timing, and with a lot of work to do, they kept calm and friendly throughout the evening.
No need to repeat other reviews. The dinner was excellent.

This restaurant is close to where we stayed (The Mercure, Bad Oeynhausen) so we walked there on the recommendation of the hotel receptionist. I ate there twice, both times the food was outstanding. The decor is slightly witchy (Hexenhaus means witches house) but not overly so. There is a small bar and room for maybe 8 tables Seating 2 - 6 so worth making a reservation during busy times or a for 6 or more people. There is an English menu available. There is an outdoor Seating are available but I wouldn't use it in the winter.
The portions are generous, we tried:
Appetizers
French Onion soup - excellent
Goulash soup - very good
Creamed Herring with fried potatoes - excellent
Entrees
Cardinals meal - very good, very, very rich (pork steak covered with Camembert)
Hexewald (?) - Pork steak with a wonderful red sauce and fries
and several other courses of of which got high marks from those eating them.
We liked this so much we went back several times.

A good restaurant with great food. We ate there all 3 evenings of our stay in Bad Oeynhausen. We enjoyed the schnitzels, trying a different one each evening. I can highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food at a good price.
(Not a place for a romantic meal, if that is what you are looking for).
