The restaurant Atelier underlines the art and gallery orientation of the cultural guesthouse «Der Teufelhof Basel». Being the French word for an artist’s workshop, an atelier is the workplace of a creative person. Our guests staying in the restaurant Atelier experience a glimpse behind the scenes of daily life in kitchen and service. Our offer comprises state-of-art global cuisine, mainly with Swiss and regional products which we purchase from suppliers and producers who we know personally. The emphasis is placed on manual skills - everything we offer is «handmade».
I think this is the fourth or fifth time I have been to this restaurant and i always enjoy it.The food is beautifully presented and the ingredients are local. Last time I had venison. It is worth asking for advice on the local Swiss wines as they are getting better and better. It is Switzerland so don't expect it to be inexpensive but the difference is that the food and the experience make it worth every penny.

We (three couples) had a dinner in Cheval Blanc and were wowed by everything: incredibly delicious food, fantastic sommelier who selected suitable vines for everyone of many dishes, and the price 400 CHF per person for whole menu, nice wines and great bottle of champagne for an appetitive. Will return!

We dined here last weekend for something special to celebrate - it was very expensive, (640 swiss francs for two people = 634 U.S. dollars), which included three glasses of wine each, so DID NOT include an expensive bottle of wine! Presentation deserves five stars, service was very good. No points for ambiance (rather sterile), prices are in the stratosphere, we find it sad that the citizens of Basel are supporting the restaurant with their tax dollars, since only a limited percentage of the population can pay this price for a meal.

Our navigation guided us to this place as we ventured off the highway duuring a snow blizzard looking for a traditional pizzeria. We were not really welcomed by the staff but shown a table and promptly given the menu. Drinks were delivered fast, pizza took about 20 mins. and tasted OK. No real kick for the taste buds and advertised toppings were sparse. Second drinks order for a beer took 15 mins. to deliver by which time we had already finished our meal. Coffee tasted good. No real surprises, meal for two adults and two kids added up to CHF 80,- which is not too bad. Still would not come again.

I visited for lunch with a group of 15 hikers (booked in advance). We ate à la carte. I chose the business lunch which consisted of 1) an excellent creme of vegetable soup 2) one of the worst green salads I have ever been served - mushy, far-from-fresh leaves drowned in an unimaginative French dressing 3) a perfectly good but overdone fillet steak (I had ordered medium) saturated in an excessive quantity of garlic butter sauce accompanied by O.K. fries and - strangely - large slices of melon, pineapple and kiwi fruit. The beer was good, but the service slow, with only one waitress for perhaps 30 guests, most of whom had arrived at the same time. The ambience of the restaurant is pleasant, with its witchcraft theme continuing into the surrounding Gardens. Most of the menu consists of variations on the theme of grilled meat on skewers, including exotic meat like springbok and zebra which is hard to find elsewhere in the Basel area; perhaps I should have chosen that!

Food is good - large portions of hearty family-style food. Well cooked and very traditionally Swiss. The owner is very charming and the wait staff mostly so. They have Very cosy traditional surroundings and are family friendly with a kids menu and even have a change mat for babies upstairs.
The restaurant is popular so bookings are recommended. It is also possible to visit just for a drink, and if they are very busy, there is a central table that seems reserved for those just drinking.
Many staff speak English and those who don't get by well anyway. There is an outside terrasse in summer which is lovely. We visit Rebstock regularly.

It is always a pleasure to visit Zum Ochsen the food is always very good, the service is top class and the interior is very pleasant. Their meat is sourced from Jenzer a local butcher and delicatessen which is well known for its quality. This was our first time since Lucien Stalder is the new chef. The dishes combined interesting combinations of ingredients, were tasty and did not disappoint. One negative point however is that we were seated in a room with a rather noisy group which at times made it difficult for us to hear each other! Nevertheless it is highly recommended.

Local friends treated me here to an unforgettable dinner. It was a lovely, warm late afternoon, perfect to be sitting outside on the big Terrace and enjoy the view. The food as well as the service, both were good. Prices are in the average range. This restaurant is outside the city, on the hillside with hicking trails to nearby historic ruins.

Family run. You feel like you are having a steak at your grand mothers house. Very friendly and excellent steak with pasta or fries. Also very attentive and fast service. Thank you.

Third dinner in this wonderful restaurant - one of the really few places in Basel that actually delivers on the promise of inventive local cuisine!
Menu changes frequently and at least to me doesn't look nearly as good on paper - but just wait till your food arrives! Attention to every detail, freshest ingredients bursting with flavor and always impeccable wine suggestions.
Plus, unusually for Switzerland, the Chef has an amazing way with the veggies: I surprised myself by ordering a vegetarian main last night, only to be blown away by the variety of tastes & textures, which came together wonderfully in probably the best vegetarian dish I’ve ever tried!
I will be highly recommending it to all my friends, especially the vegetarians (who I feel are generally confined to some bland mush around here), and hope to be back soon :)
