Investigate, explore, experience. There are several types of walk, including a flat path to some ponds, and a forest path well-signed to various cave structures and aspects of the ancient hermitage where cultural artefacts were found. A quiet, reflective place. Public transport there: Take tram 10 from Basel SBB (main rail station) to Arlesheim stop (direction Dornach), about 20 mins. Yellow walking signs lead you through a few lovely backstreets to the 'English garden' where all the caves and dripping greenery are. Birseck castle, one of the 2 part-ruined 'castles' in the forest is open occasionally and used as a kindergarten. you can do a loop to include them, less than an hour and not much uphill - that includes some quiet time at various interest points. The ponds walk is a separate trail.

The Dom was quite big for such a small town. It was open when I was there (Tuesday, 6 pm). The area around the dome is really nice.

Good place with small kids when is hot. Really clean. Has a nice play area for kids. You can have fun with kids every age. The chips from the restaurant had spice herbs on it - this is not for kids.

J.J. Zimmermann shows more than 8000 objects of Bakelite that he has collected over the past 30 years, and he gave us a two-hour tour that we will never forget: he put as much love and knowledge into his explanation as in the exhibits themselves.
We were absolutely fascinated by what we saw and what we heard.
You have to go there and see to believe: I don't think there's is anything comparable in the field of Bakelite!

A tiny part of the massive collection of entrepreneur Prof. Reinhold Würth. Started in the 1960s. Includes 17,000 works distributed in several European locations. The current Arlesheim (accessible by tram from Basel) exhibition shows works of Friedensreich Hunderwasser 'til Jan 2017. Regardless of the extent to which one agrees with his radical world views, his life and particularly his lifestyle and artistic & architectural achievements stand as great monuments to individuality and respect for nature. You can just admire the forms and vivid colours of the works but to appreciate the exceptional manner of production and the spirit of the artist it is essential to have a guide. Entrance is free. We took a guided tour for 8 CHF from a lady who knew the artist personally for many years. Worth every last cent. There is also a cafe-restaurant – but with limited choice on Sunday.
