Sun Theatre Yarraville

Reviewed By rjimlad - Melbourne, Australia

The Sun is a restored Art Deco suburban theatre; now a cinema. It has three (I think) cinemas of differing sizes and each are rather beautiful. The seats are new and are deep and comfortable with big wide arms to rest your drinks on.
It gets very crowded in the foyer and you need to book, especially on half-price night. Right outside the main entrance is a little piazza on the Yarraville strip where people have picnics or visit the adjoining restaurants. It's a great locality and the Sun occupies a central place in it.

This was an all day tour, advertised as such, starting at 7:30 and then getting back to our hotels and ship about 8:30 PM.
Get Lost Tours picks up it's riders for the day at various hotels or other pick up spots which is nice. Our tour was in reverse, meaning we went to the 12 Apostles first and worked our way back to Melbourne, so there was a lot of driving at first. We stopped about 10:00 at a roadside picnic area in Colac, where our driver put out an assortment of instant coffee, tea and Milo, along with some biscuits. There was also fresh water available on board.
Along the way, we drove in & out of rain, which I guess is normal for there, but every stop was dry, if not sunny.
The 12 Apostle's is an awesome spot. With the huge earth carved rock formations and the crashing of the waves from the Southern Ocean, you really saw the force of nature. We went to a couple spots there for different vantage points. At one, our driver passed out an assortment of sandwiches which were tasty and hit the spot.
Then we headed back on the Great Ocean Drive, stopping here and there along the way. At one point, in a rain forest we saw some swamp wallaby's, and later we saw some Koala's in the wild. Plenty of other sites along the way. Our driver was great at telling us what we were seeing and little tidbits of history too. I believe his name was Rien(Ryan).
Rien stopped by a pizza place and picked up a huge order of Pizza's and we stopped at another park to eat. The ocean was just over the ridge and was beautiful.
We expressed interest in seeing Kangaroos so as we didn't see them along the regular route, our driver took us by a gold course where there was a mob of them, 50 or more, just munching on the grass, hopping around. What a way to cap off our tour!
Rien took each group back to their hotels, and since we were on a cruise ship, he took us to the cruise terminal. Thanks Rien!
