There is an easy walk (lined with vendors) to a viewing area at an old hydroelectric plant, which allows you to see the falls and the rainbow at the bottom. Very nice (but watch out for harmless-looking bugs that leave you with mosquito-type bites on your hands and arms). Also lots of butterflies. But then you can walk further to the right, over a bridge, and hike down a trail (a small fee is requested) to near the bottom of the waterfall. This is a fun hike through jungle-like flora (I saw a dead tarantula, and there is moss and other plants growing on some of the trees) with great views at the bottom, but the walk back up is strenuous. Thankfully there are several resting points along the way. Very much worth seeing, but I give it only four stars just because it's not Niagara Falls or that kind of epic sight.

This church is worth a special trip inside. Some unique statuary and one of the side chapels is quite dramatic.

The Coffee Museum has become the major tourist attraction in our region, with thousands of visitors per year. This inspires us to share our taste for the art of drinking coffee. The coffee Museum's goal is to let visitors know about the origins of quality coffee and the different process steps it goes through before we can enjoy a good cup of joe. Our guides, who specialize in the history and culture of coffee, will take you on a fascinating tour where you will see our plantations as well as an interesting exhibition of objects from the 19th and 20th centuries.
One of my most memorable experiences in Mexico. Even though I was the only visitor Arturo and his mother between them showed me the complete process from commercial finca to cup. The tour included a tasting session and explanation of modern versus traditional cultivars. The...MoreThanks, nice pics !!! Remember we need to drink just high quality coffee in This Life ! I hope you had a nice trip back home! Atte Arturo A.

The collections are well maintained and organized. For bird watching it is best to arrive at opening (9:00 am). Mondays are closed. There are trails through older growth cloud forest that are full of birds. We arrived on the Briones bus from Coatepec. The bus runs through a beautiful backroad, and it is well worth the time to take it. Plan for about 2 hours in the garden which also gives plenty of time to relax in this serene place.

Four of us along with a local guide (Heribert Mavil Pozos, see his facebook page using the same name) climb the hill on a sunny day in Feb. I would not recommend climbing it on a heavy raining day as the trail could become muddy. I further recommend that you take the trail that goes around the mountain for two reasons: the beautiful view of the valley, Orizaba mountain and Perote mountain (breathe taking), and it is the easier of the two trails to the submit. You will pass through a cafe plantation where you will have the opportunity to visit with the friendly local people. There are many birds! On the submit, take the time to have lunch and enjoy the view from the other side of the mountain and see more birds. You can go down the same way or take another trail that is steeper but quite doable if you go slowly. Apparently the locals are trying to improve this trail to improve accessibility for more people. I stayed in Coatepec one month, and this was one of the highlights of my stay. A guide is recommended as the guide will ask permission to park at the posada la querencia, and know which trails to take.

If you want to know everything about coffee, from the seed to the plant, fruit, processing, preparation and tasting this is definitely a place to see. Even if I could see just few tiny coffee plants in the backyard of this country house the owner provides a lot of information about the world of coffee making: she knows a lot and very professional. At the end there is a tasting and also explains several ways to prepare it. It took from 11AM to 4PM without lunchtime... but definitely worth it! Reservations suggested. Price for the experience 360MXN. And you can also buy their products which are obviously very natural and good!

Get into the cloud forest, the most beautiful region of Veracruz and live the experience of visiting a coffe plantation, a coffe's old benefit, a living hacienda and a magical town scented coffee
Living now in Mexico, it’s just incredible that when you turn any corner you discover something unique in all the world. Mexico is of course famous for its coffee and 75% comes from the State of Veracruz. But the true Capital of Coffee (Capital Cafetalera) is Coatepec, nestled at 1200 meters halfway between the humid coast and the cool altiplano above. From here you can see North America’s third tallest peak, Orizaba, but on the ground it’s all about coffee. Have you ever plucked a coffee “cherries” from the tree. Would you like to learn about growing, sun-drying, roasting, and brewing your some of the world’s best coffee where there is perfect weather (22-30C / 72-86F) year round?!
Sendero Travel has organized an amazing Pathways to Coffee / Senderos del Café one-day tour led by a extremely knowledgeable barista and great tour guide (yes, ask for tour in English). Just a half-hour from Xalapa, home of the Japapeño pepper and the capital of Veracruz, the tour lives up to the town’s nickname of "Pueblo Mágico". The tour investigates the well-known Bola del Oro plantation, so well-kept that they have wedding there. I learned so much. Did you know that a two-acre piece of land planted with coffee trees and including a small farmhouse can be bought for as little as US$150,000? Not only do you get an expert tasting session with barista Luis Jorge, expert roaster and owner of the Novo Café Bar, you get to review the amazing estates of the local coffee plantations with a knowledgeable guide. You finish the tour with refreshing lemonade and cakes at the amazing Hacienda de Pacho, where doyenne de historia y cultura, Marisa Moolik, will regale you with stories of the old days. The one-day tour begins at 9am and ends at 3pm. They pick you up from your hotel or you can meet at the Plaza in the town center. Price is MXN530 for AARP and kids and MXN630 (USD33) all inclusive.

La tienda es muy pintoresca, tienen gran variedad de moles y conservas. El mole tiene muy buen sabor, diferente de cualquier otro mole, pero único. La pasta de Chile es incluso mejor que el mole, pero sí es muy enchilosa.

Parque Juarez is a lovely, park-like square in the historic center of Xalapa. It is a good place to relax among the locals and enjoy the remarkable views of the surrounding Mountains and the rooftops of the city. We were there in the early evening and enjoyed the playing of a concert band and drum and bugle corps as the large Mexican flag was lowered.
