This is a beautiful castle in the quiet town of biar. A wonderful little town to go and walk around. The castle is well preserved and has some wonderful views. There is also a similar castle to visit in the next town of Villena.

Awesome treasure; they have this little film to show before the explanation starts. Mind that Spanish people (even museum guides) don't master English very well. I for instance played the role of interpreter; the young girl who needed to explain it all to us was so nervous she did not find her words very well - she didn't make a difference between "before or after J.C.".
You are allowed to walk around on your own after the exxplanation too. It's a pleasant way to discover something extra about the town and it's history.

Villena Visitor Centre hosts an impressive and modern exhibition about Villena, with touchscreens and projectors that tell the visitor about Villena's history and heritage. Besides, you can prepare your visit to Villena, as you will have any information you may need, and can also buy the tickets for the castle and the museums.
The visitor centre has a small display about the town and castle - mostly in both Spanish and English. It's worth a visit for a bit of background information about the area, and you can buy a joint ticket for the castle, museum, and the church. All of these are worth a look. The staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful.

Visit the website of Bodegas Francisco Gómez. Select the winery or winery/cultural tour. They will soon contact you. The AVE-train trip from Alicante to Villena is very short. When you book the winery tour they can arrange everything: transport from Villena AVE train station (private car transport) and back. It is jus a few kilometres from AVE station. There is no public transport available in Villena AVE train station. The winery is very beautiful combination of old and modern. You can taste different wines and olive oils with some sausages. If you combine the winery visit with Villena town and its magnificent Atalaya Castle, the arrange the transport from winery to Villena town also.

Small village with amazing Castle! A combination of fortress from the 10th century during the Moorish period to the Roman 12th century battles. It's unique two cultural differences adds to its beauty and grandeur! Challenge yourself to find the hand of Fatima! Local restaurants provide great and varied local cuisine.

On the slopes of the Atalaya Castle in Villena, we can find the headquarters of the Tuareg squadron. Inside we can visit caves decorated in Islamic style which take us back to the Middle Ages. A must-see attraction!

Our tour gives visitors an up-close look at the history of Villena through one of its most iconic elements: wine and the culture surrounding it. The tour includes a guided tour and a tasting. Tour + Tasting of 3 wines + olive oil = €7 per person. Tour + Tasting of 3 wines + Fondillon + olive oil = €10 per person. Tours are available in Spanish or in English. Advance booking is required.
Arriving at Bodega Las Virtudes we were greeted by Belén who would be our guest for the trip. From the very start she was attentive and explained the wine-making process in detail, with perfect English. The Winery was a working industry and really gave it an authentic feel, rather than more touristic ones we have tried. The tour was very interesting and the history of the wines as they were described made the tasting even more special. You could tell Belén took a real interest, particularly with the Fondillon, which we were dying to try after hearing its origins - and we were not dissaponted. All 4 wines were fantastic and we left feeling warm and fuzzy - a combination of a great morning and the wines no doubt. Big thanks to Belén and the rest of Bodega Las Virtudes!

It's a very quiet clean restaurant with a vast variety of foods. From different types of tapas to main plates.
Friendly staff and a good location with easy parking.
The shape is also very modern as the restaurant is an all glass triangle shape next to the recently renovated bull ring.
The menu is in English and some of the staff speak English also so ordering is not a problem.
Well recommended.
