Traveling in Minas Gerais historic towns can get you confused, after the third encounter. Was this here or have I seen it before? Churches and churches, colonial atmosphere and style of architecture can get you cross-eyed. Our grate luck in Tiradentes was that we arrived with the yearly film festival, late January, and all the stars and people gave a tremendous life to Tiradentes historic district. We enjoyed it a lot. If you are coming, plan ahead because hotels will be hard to find, and reserve your restaurant! Lots of fun!

This church has its altar covered with gold. Is the second richest church in Brazil. The windows has beautiful colored glasses forming beautiful sites. The important people of the city in the 17th and 18th century were buried inside the church. The wooden floor is marked with numbers standing for the graves.

It is a beautiful baroque gem having more than three centuries of history. There was an automated presentation with voice (Portuguese only) and lights, highlighting details of the construction.
I had the opportunity to combine the tour with the live presentation of the organ, fully restored and sounding almost like when brought from Portugal. Definitively a must, check the schedule and availability for Friday nights.

This ridge dominates the pretty and historic town of Tiradentes so it is difficult to miss. Whatever the weather - and we saw it in rain, mist, bright sin and at sunset - it is beautiful.

This museum is really a small treasure in Tiradentes. Absolutely a "must" to be visited. The collection of sculptures of the "Saint Anna" is unique and the newly reformed building is for sure also worth a visit.

In "gruta casa de pedra" you are greeted by the guide (Mr. Antonio) which is very kind with everyone, including children. You walk through the woods before entering the cave. Inside, he tells stories about the place and gives you some idea of how to form the rocks, the colors, shapes, etc.
You are accompanied by several spiders, bats, among other inhabitants of the cave.
Children can go without any restrictions (beyond fear of insects).
My kids loved there.

The museum is about a year old and is set in an historic building but with a very modern extension. The cost is10 Rs but 5 for students and those of us over 60 even if from overseas. It houses the collection of church silver and other artefacts from the churches of the town. They are very well displayed. Notes in English and in some other languages are available in each room. The excellent touch screen computer based demonstration can also be accessed in a number of languages, almost a novelty in Brazil. And we had an excellent and enthusiastic young guide explaining to us the objects and some stories in English. Worth the short time it takes to see it all. Grand views too from the outside Terrace.

The church was built by African slaves brought to our country. Though not a religious person myself, I was moved by the history of the church (slaves building it at night, when they could), and also loved to see black saint icons. A small church with such a background moves me more than a big one full of gold...

What a great place! That's where all the best restaurants and bars are, with live music, typical local food, delicious! A little expensive though. The little shopping places are another delight!
