Old wooden castle. Was open for this visit as when last called in 2 years ago was closed.
Steep steps up to the castle and even steeper inside to the floors which will be impossible for those with mobility difficulties. Nice views from the top floor. Worth walking around the walls to get impression of size and way built.

Years ago around 1997 or so we had a car available. So we decided to explore coastal sights along North Japan sea. This place came as a surprisingly beautiful place. We walked in the area and enjoyed the views. Much later from some Japanese friends we heard that it is famous because many commit suicide from these cliffs. I thought it was so beautiful and well kept that one would give up the idea of suicide and want to stay back on this beautiful planet. Camera is a must. Spending just a couple of hours here is enough unless one plans to go to Oshima island also.

You can get up close and personal with the animals and touch them at the aquarium. This outstanding aquarium is located in front of the Sea of Japan, right next to Tojinbo. This popular, original facility is a little different from your run-of-the-mill aquarium. The secret is the Taikangata (experiencing) Aquarium. Here you can feed huge sea turtles and fish, and touch a giant octopus, a seal and even a live shark! The aquarium is open until 9:00 p.m., and in summer children can swim alongside fish in the Kaisui Pool and enjoy observing the seaside life on the natural ocean shore. In addition, in the Ocean Hall that will open in July 2009, the Coral Sea, where you can try floating on top of the ocean like in a dream, is a must-see! It’s an experience in a super dimensional space like walking on the surface of the water. Of course the aquarium is also replete with an enjoyable dolphin show. As everyday attractions, visitors can touch a dolphin and take a walk next to Humboldt penguins.
Surprisingly large aquarium with a wide variety of animals (fish, jellyfish, turtles, frogs, penguins), the highlight being dolphins. There are dolphin shows throughout the day. A petting area lets you touch sharks, rays and an octopus, and children can play in water with fish.
The aquarium is by the sea, allowing for a walk out to a small island, if you fancy taking a break to see some wild sea creatures.

Angel Land was a last minute trip and glad we made it!
A wide open grass field filled with so many attractions for kids and parents.
Filled with Fountains, Playgrounds, trampolines, indoor play area & a library it just never ends!
Really a great place for the family or even a nice jog.
Tip: There is a great bakery by the entrance with freshly made bread and sandwiches every hour, a must try.

Beautiful scenery and hiking route around the island, which takes about 30 minutes to walk around while enjoying views of the sea, rocks like those at nearby Tojimbo, a shrine, and nature. The bridge is also very impressive, and kept very red like the Torii gates at Shinto shrines.
The recent typhoons have caused some damage on the island, blowing over some trees and toppling a stone Torii gate, but the route around the island is still accessible.
I've heard that walking around the island one way (clockwise or counter-clockwise) is unlucky, though can't remember which, though nobody seemed to care as people walked in both directions.
The is one small carpark, free parking, in front of the bridge. Worth a visit if going to Tojimbo, and the weather is nice for a walk around the island.

Some of you will love this place, some of you will hate it.
On a typically hot summer's day here, you will encounter wall-to-wall people at this waterworld. If you don't mind that and are able to find your niche, you can very well enjoy yourself.
I suggest pitching your suntent by the Sea of Japan side of the wave pool. It's nice and breezy there and the view is pleasant.
If, however, you are not into crowds, you could find yourself having nightmares based on this place. Scenes from this super crowded establishment could very easily fit into clips from Koyaanisqatsi. If you don't mind standing in line for an hour to enjoy a 40 second-long waterslide, enjoy the experience.
If I come to this place again, I will definitely bring an eskie full of my own food and drinks, including cold beers. The food and drinks here are mediocre and very expensive.
