Reptisland is a unique place of 250m2 with a variety of more than 40 types of reptiles, including snakes, lizards, turtles and even a Crocodile. A place for the whole family to watch, photograph, touch and learn about the magic world of reptiles. Dont be afraid the uknown just get to know it.
It's not so often in our lives when we can contact snails and other reptiles directly without fear - in this place you can do it. The only way to improve this place is to make it more easy to find.

I booked Cretan taxi service on-line to collect us from the airport to take us to our rented Villa in Sfakaki. George The owner was very efficient and arranged this via e-mail and reassured me that we would be collected.
The driver Mathios was waiting for us and welcomed us to Crete and quickly took our cases to the car . He was very efficient and drove us safely and comfortably through the busy roads of Crete. The journey took about an hour and bottled water was provided for all 5 passengers.
We booked Crete Taxis for our return journey and again Mathios was our driver and we were all looked after with the same efficiency, thank you.

The Monastery is situated little over 20 km southeast of Rethymnon and is a symbolic place of local resistance in its struggle for freedom ; here hundreds of people have lost their lives in 1866 in a decisive battle against the Turks ; originally it was a Venetian church from the 16th century; the front of the church displays eight Corinthian columns and a bell tower with three bells ; as we learn from the guides,the exact date of founding the monastery is not known ; between the 16th and 18th century,the monastery housed a rich library and a laboratory for gold embroidery ;

Beautiful small beach, usually protected from the wind, we go there regularly because we really like the food in the Taverna, and (call us spoiled north Europeans, but we are on our holidays!) the beach staff bring us our coffees to the sun beds. Heaven.

We were on our way from Heraklion to Rethymno when we came across this lovely museum found in Axos Mylopotamou.
The artist Mr. Koutantos is a professional artist giving soul to his wood creations.
He was telling us that he is self- taught since very young.
His work is amazing and he does everything by using his hammer and chisel only.
He welcomes his guest and will leave his work behind if he need to, to give them a tour and explain everything. There are so many wonderful pieces out there to be admired!
If you are passing by, it pays to make a stop and meet Giogos!

The sea is so clear here it is hard to believe. This is a calm bay where you can swim way out. The Mountains are in the background and it is so photogenic. You can rent beach chairs. Get there by 10 in the summer or you won't find a place to park or sit.

Caves are very nice. Spectacular stalactites and stalagmites. We are very lucky to see this natural treasure. Before we came to see this place we went to see Psychros Cave. It was very nice experience but we place this one higher in position after. Must see. Crete got apparently over 1000 caves. don't wait !!!

We stopped off from the City bus tour to walk down through here. A very pleasant, peaceful couple of hours and a quirky taverna at the bottom. Get prepared beforehand with sensible footwear, water etc and maybe a little research, so that you know what to look for and what you are looking at. Met some people who were actually walking UP the gorge. Rather them than me

This is the famous Fountain in Spili that are on the postcards a lot!
The Lion Fountain is yet another highlight in this beautiful old mountain village of Spilli. The Fountain is in the centre of the old town, nestled amongst the cobbled streets flowered balconies and vine covered rustic cottages.
The Fountain consists of 19 stone lion heads spurting fresh cold mountain water, which is drinkable.
Also a great place to take a photo.
