Nora

This is a great and interesting way to spend half a day. This archaeological site is still a work in progress. The guided tour takes approximately an hour and then if you wish you can also take in the Spanish Tower nearby. What is fascinating are the lovely mosaics. The price is reasonable at about 7 euros- this includes the guide. The one thing I was surprised at was that the mosaics were not protected by the elements of the weather. When I asked the guide why not- she didn't really know!
Still this is well worth the visit, and is situated by the sea and Beaches.

Spiaggia Santa Margherita di Pula

Nice to find a quiet, sandy beach with a lifeguard but a safe sea for swimming. Just a couple of hotels set back from the beach and some campsites in the woods and it all looks lovely and unspoilt.

Aquarium Laguna di Nora

Reviewed By Paul B - Nottingham, United Kingdom

The aquarium and turtle sanctuary/rehabilitation is reached along a long spit which has the sea on one side and the lagoon on the other. The Aquarium is poor and has very few fish and crustacea. Next is a cetacean display with the skulls and skeletons of some small whales/dolphins - this actually is quite interesting, but again small scale. The Turtle sanctuary only had one turtle there when we visited and he was desparate to get to the sea, swimming up and down his small tank on the sea-side only. I suppose a turtle sanctuary with one turtle is a sign of success (all the others being returned to the sea), but I would hate to think of this poor chap imprisoned there until they rescue another one (or perhaps he was more ill than he looked).
Eight euros per person is more than a bit steep for this experience which lasted no more than 3/4 hour (and I'm interested in sea life), but I suppose that some of it is to fund the turtle rescue/rehabilitation program.

We got the bus from Pula to Norao. This was closed when visited Nora, which was a shame, but it looks very interesting inside. So we sat and had a coffee opposite and then visited the rest of Nora.

Beautiful place very scenic and clean, would defo go back, beach was clean and quiet, quite a steep walk up to the top and the tower was fenced off, but still worth it for the views and photo opportunity

Civic Archaeological Museum Giovanni Patroni

Reviewed By seolram - Leiden, The Netherlands

This museum houses finds from the archaeological site of Nora, a Phoenician/ Punic /Roman town near Pula. The museum is small and the most interesting artefacts are exposed in the National Museum in Cagliari, but some ceramics in this museum are worth a look. Actually, the most interesting part of the museum are the pictures of excavations in the late 19th/ early 20th century.
So, in short: When you have visited the site of Nora in the morning, it's a nice addition if you visit the museum in Pula in the afternoon. If you are planning to just go to Pula to vist this museum: don't bother...
