The caves of Ponza are steeped in mystical mythology—legend has it that Ponza was Homer’s inspiration for the sorceress Circe’s island in The Odyssey. The whole island has a magical feel to it, from the grottoes to the botanical gardens to the underground labyrinth of Roman tunnels. Schedule a boat tour so that you can explore the entire island by sea—a truly spectacular experience.

Lovely Island, easy to get to from the Italian Mainland.
We toured around the entire island on a boat and the coastline is very scenic. The town is also awesome with its shops, bars, restaurants and gelato shops. It was great to stroll, shop and people watch in this friendly community. It was also fun to watch the fishermen come in and carry in their day's catch.

There were about 20 other people here during our visit so it felt quite and peaceful. We arrived on a hire boat and had plenty of help from the staff when we moored. Mooring was free which was a nice surprise. We had lunch which was simple but enjoyable.

We bought tickets for a tour around the island for only €18/person right as you come off the dock from the ferry. They took us out on a boat the entire way around the island. Driving under the natural arc was pretty cool. Our boat driver was talking about it being romantic and said that everyone should kiss their partner for good luck, so we did. Then he drove through a second time! It was really beautiful to see. There is another small natural bridge/arch that you will drive by high up on the side of the cliffs as you go around as well.

Tiberius allegedly built a series of "baths"/deep (originally frescoed) ponds cut directly into the hillside beneath his villa. Amazing to see from the sea - even better if you could visit them by land - your tour boat can go close enough to see them but you won't see much detail. These were (according to our guide) carved to accommodate lamprey ponds - lampries were considered a delicacy that only the richest Romans could afford. According to our guide, he who had the largest amount of lampries was the richest "fish" in the social scene. Lampries (or possibly, Moray eels) were caught, and kept alive in these sea washed, oxygenated (naturall) pools for food and ceremonial purposes (some were apparently adorned with jewelry!). Anyway this is the first stop outside the port and thronged with people - so go early and a smaller boat will ensure you can get up closer.....

Beautiful view of the Chiaia from the road. I visited in september 2015 and unfortunately, the beach was still closed. The view is worth it though!

Part of the day trip around Ponza island. The cliffs the bays and the water around Ponza are unbeleivable. It is difficult to decide which part is the most beautiful. Try the boat trip and try to decide yourself which is the most beautiful, anyway Cala Felci is one of them.

We traveled in August and the beach was packed, there wasnt much room to lie on the beach.. so i'm sure that took away from the beauty of this beach. Would recommend going other months when its less crowded. The accessibility from the Port was great, a frequent ferry that takes you there and back for 5 euros.

I walked to that point from Chiai Di Luna bay. It was in the morning around 10 o clock. I never saw anything like this before, the white was shining white or sparkling white that time. It changes colour accornding the angle of the sun shine, but it is always breathtaking. You may see it from a boat and it has different colour from the see to. Simly a must to visit it.
