As said in previous reviews, my wifecandcI love zoos. This zoo, Plzen Zoo was the third this trip. Initial, reaction was not favourable until we followed the zoo map more carefully and discovered what a wonderful place it is. An amazing collection of so many different species. Huge enclosures- the brown bear enclosure was 10 times larger than any similar we have seen. Lots of endangered species,,and an obviously successful breeding program for many species. Apart from big ticket species like lions, rhinos etc, this zoo has an amazing collection of small rodent, mongoose and lemur species. And fabulous exotic birds. Altogether a great experience for zoo lovers. And it is also the Botanic Gardens, so lots of wonderful flora.

Walk the streets of Pilsen with a tour, beautiful place. Not handicap or elderly friendly. The streets are your typical stone and can be difficult. All this said, the sites are spectacular. The Cathedral is amazing and worth the photo opp. Only observed it from the outside but enjoy the beauty and history of it. Worth the time.

This huge, very impressive building, although still undergoing restoration, is a wonderful insight into the pre-WW2 Jewish population of Pilsen. Sweeping interior vistas, beautifully decorated, it is a must see if you are interested in the faith of Jewish people in Pilsen. And we were lucky enough to visit when there was a brilliant exhibition of Czecn press photos 1995- 2005. A great bonus. The synogogue is a beautiful building,,a short walk from St Bartholomew's Cathedral, and a good counterpoint to it.

We spent the day here and barely had time to do everything. A wonderful imaginative place, with a Planetarium and many interactive activities for all ages. Plan for 2 days as you'll want to come back.

Visit Pilsen Historical Underground - a labyrinth of passageways, cellars and wells, the building of which began as early as in the 14th century and which have been an integral part of the city's past and present. Come and feel life down underground and unveil the secrets of its authentic niches and nooks. Tasting of the Master beer (for persons older than 18 only) is a part of the tour. Souvenirs can be purchased for you and your family and friends from the Gift Shop.Entrance from the Brewery Museum at Veleslavinova 6.
You learn about how people used this underground to keep their food refrigerated and get to see some old things found there (table ware, potery, tools, etc) For kids is a little bit boring. Some areas of the underground has the ceiling very low so you have to watch your head! Even if you have a security helmet on. Overall good walk and interesting to see.

If you want to learn everything there is to know about beer, come and visit the Brewery Museum in Pilsen. It is located in the Pilsen centre in a 15th-century building with an original license to brew beer, which breathes the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. The Museum tells the story of the production, serving and drinking of beer from antiquity to the present time. Visitors aged 18 and older can look forward to tasting Pilsner Urquell beer there. On your visit to the Brewery Museum, pop in the Na Parkanu taproom, with its unique atmosphere of the 1930s. Go back in time and enjoy remarkable unfiltered Pilsner Urquell beer.
We took the self-guided tour of the museum with English Audio guides. There were lots of displays, pictures and pieces of machinery used in the brewing process. Before 1842 there were lots of Breweries in Pilsen and the quality of the beer was very inconsistent so the best brewers got together and started the Urquell brand. The beer was good and very popular and they say it is still made the same way as in 1842.

Great hidden gem near downtown. Would like to post a review once it is listed.Thanks.
A fascinating museum, full of so many interesting WWII artefacts and very well put together information about the liberation of Western Bohemia and Plzen by the US Army in 1945. Lots of detailed accounts of the combat undertaken by the various different US divisions. Also how the Communists tried to rewrite history and give the Soviet army credit for the liberation. I am a WWII history buff- my wife isn't, but she also found this museum to be interesting and informative. Well done - a must see for anyone interested in WW2.
