Zoo is beautifully situated on the Schölerberg,a wooded hill on the edge of the city, and only a 14 minute bus ride from the Hauptbahnhof.
We visited for about 3 1/2 hours on a cold sunny December Sunday. Even though there was some construction work in progress and some animals were in their winter quarters, we had a great time walking around and saw: elephants, lions, tigers, bears, rhinos, giraffes, chimps, red pandas, sea lions and penguins plus many other smaller animals including reptiles, fish and birds. The zoo has grown out of all recognition since the days of the Osnabrücker Tiergarten (animal garden) back in the 1950s and 60s.Thoroughly recommended for people of all ages.

The Rathaus is a fascinating mix of history, architecture and models. The people working were helpful in explaining what to see and what order to proceed around the building. There is a room dedicated to the Westphalia Treaty which ended the Thirty Years War and was signed here (and in Munster down the road). There is also a lot of local history of the development and settling of Osnabruck. It is a nice stop.

Many TA reviews cover the wonderful history of the Dom so I shall not repeat but please look into that. The architecture and the rather stern style both inside and outside has always attracted me. This is a holy place built for durability and functionality for the common man and not to make the worshipers feel overwhelmed by all the glitter of so many other churches and cathedrals. Martin Luther would be proud.

What an experience! This is a must see when in Osnabruck. The architecture is mind-bending and, of course, the content, both the physical art which is both beautiful and tragic, and the Nussbaum story which also is beautiful and tragic, are entirely captivating. The audio tour is a definite help!

a great architect who was able to preserve all the scars of this old building and yet build in modern features to enjoy it, like a glasswalled elevator for instance

We were rather disappointed by the lack of maintenance in the Gardens. OK< it may have been a hot summer, but apparently they could not afford to water the plants. We visited other botanical Gardens this summer that looked much better. At least entrance was free!

The construction of the present St. Marien Church, of course a Catholic Church then, was started in the 14th century and completed in the 15th century. In the 16th century during the Reformation, the church was taken over by the Evangelical-Lutheran Congregation, making it a Protestant church. There is no lavish decoration; the church is almost gloomy, compared to the sometimes profuse atmosphere of a Catholic church. Noteworthy are the Altar with decoration, made in Antwerp in the 16th century and the large Triumph Cross, which was made in the 13th century. (See the pictures). St Marien Church at the historical Markt central square of Osnabrück, merits a visit. To be recommended.

a fairy tale. this park is the oldest public park in Germany and is kinda neglected, which makes it so gorgeous. trees, little oases, ponds, rosegardens, hidden cottages - and most of all: a stunning view over osnabrueck from the churchs garden

The "Heger Tor" is a city gate to the Old Town (Altstadt) of Osnabrück. The gate is erected two centuries ago to commemorate the German soldiers who fought at Waterloo. You can find the 'Heger Tor" at the end of the Heger Strasse, giving out on the "Heger-Tor-Wall thoroughfare. This year the artist Michael Johansson gave the "Heger Tor" a make-over into contemporary art by adding to the gate contours everyday stuff as steel cabinets, PC monitors, books, tables etc. Interesting.
