This lovely island is accessed by ferry, ask for a return ticket costing 2 euros On the island there are toilets, sun beds and two bars. The bars sell drinks and snacks all reasonably priced. The island has miles of sans so lovely fir walking but the sea is really rough, constant waves so not good for small children

The Gypsy Market, as our guide described it, was on Saturday morning, the first day of our stay in the Algarve so was worth visiting. The stalls of clothes, shoes and presents were all much cheaper than at home but, for me the highlight was the display of fruit, vegetables and fish.
The fish market had a much greater selection of fresh fish than we ever see at home but sells out quickly so an early start is recommend.

Went to Culatra by local ferry, which goes regularly throughout the day and is inexpensive.
We walked through the village of Culatra and across to the Atlantic side of the island, this walk is along a raised boardwalk and didn’t take very long. The beach is fantastic and deserted, but there are no facilities, even the toilet was boarded up in November! The beach was completely deserted in November.
We are not sunbathers so we walked along the beach and collected shells of which there are loads. Be aware if you have small children that there is a lot of swell and big waves, even on a calm day.
We walked to Farol along the beach, although it has a different name it is all part of the one island, the walk took about 45 minutes and you can get the return ferry from there or walk back to Culatra.
There were lots of restaurants and café’s open in Culatra but at this time of year Farol was a ghost town with everything shut.
This island is well worth a visit.

Beautiful peaceful area, just back from the barrier Islands along the coast from the border with Spain and towards Faro.
Lots of walking and biking trails, well marked pathways and you can get away from all vehicle traffic.
Flamingos, herons, egrets and many wading birds on the salt marshes.
Lovely peaceful place to visit.

Olhão's Main Church is the seat of the parish of Our Lady of the Rosary and the main monument in Olhão. Construction begun in 1698. The Church was opened for worship in 1715 and completed only in 1783. Open every day except Monday. On Saturday afternoon and Sunday it opens only for the Eucharist. The Chapel of Our Lord of the Afflicted is at the Church rear and can be observed at any time of day or night. Free entry. To climb the tower and have the most magnificent view of our city, admission fee of € 1.00 (request visits at the Parish Notary).
located in centre of town, was built in 1698 originally by fishermen donations, was i understand first stone building in Olhao, seems to be central today and still impressive with baroque facade.
