I went there and it was not really the full season yet to see the whales, but while we were diving which was great by the way, we were able to listen to the whales, it was quite a magical experience, of course it cannot be guaranteed by the dive master, but worth a try. Anyways the amount of fish in the pacific is very large, so even there are no reefs the diving is good.

The entrance to the park costs 38,000 COP for foreigners (14,000 COP for Colombians) and there is only a 900 meters platform over the Mangroves that you can walk onto! There is another path that supposedly takes 8 - 10 hours to walk but the guide told us we couldn't go there because it is a military area!
To get to the park, you also have to pay 60,000 COP for a lancha, that also bring you to "playa blanca", a grey tiny beach full of plastic bottles. We had lunch there, 15,000 COP for three deep (deep deep deep) fried pieces of fish, a patacon a some rice.
Snorkeling is really not amazing, there is no corals, no colors and very little fish...
And they do not rent snorkels....
Maybe it's nicer during whale season.
Instead of the park, I recommend going to TERMALES and staying at Refugio Salomon. The beach in Termales is much nicer, bigger and cleaner, and there is a beautiful hike to a waterfall (Los 4 encantos), where you can also see some cute little very poisonous frogs!
And we saw whales there, way after the season was over. So Termales is THE place to stay if you visit Choco!

Paddle with native guides through one of the best preserved mangrove Forests in the country. The tour begins in the small fishing village of Coqui, where you learn a bit about the flora and fauna of the area in a small instructional classroom maintained by the community guides. You then board a traditional dugout canoe for the 2-hour mangrove tour.
It was a wonderful experience; you should definitely try this tour out! I went with 3 friends of mine and the guide, a native Colombian, could tell and show us everything. The landscape was beautiful and special like nothing we have seen before. We had a great time. Thanks to the team of Visit Chocó for the great organization!

The Choco Community Tourism Alliance (Alianza de Turismo Comunitario del Choco) was formed by and for the benefit of four community based tourism enterprises in the area around Nuqui Colombia. The four community based tourism enterprises that make up the Alliance are: the Community Corporation of Los Termales, the Guides Association of Pichinde, the Young Peoples Ecological Guides of Coqui, and the Association of Playa Blanca.
Chocó is an amazing destination. The people are very nice and the nature is impressing. I loved walking through the rainforest and take a bath under hidden Waterfalls while being surrounded by absolutely nobody else and the jungle. My second highlight of the trip was soaking in the hot Springs. I didn't know it before but community tourism is great, I totally support it!
