Marsaxlokk (Maltese pronunciation: [marsaʃˈlɔk]) is a traditional fishing village in the South Eastern Region of Malta, with a population of 3,534 as of March 2014. The village’s name comes from marsa, which means "port" and xlokk, which is the local name for south east. The word is related to the name for the dry sirocco wind that blows from the Sahara, comparable to the equivalent Catalan word, "xaloc". The village is known for the Marsaxlokk Market, a large market which takes place around the whole village on Sundays and tourist market all days during the week. The inhabitants of the village are called the Xlukkajri and are historically fishermen.

One of the reare natural resorts, and almost I can say untouched nature. If you are fond of places to jump, dive and ready to spend couple of hours in Maltese natural environment then this is perfect place for you. If you do not drive just to let you know public buses won t take you here. But there are three ways to reach it from Marsaxlokk, small unofficial cabs, walking for those in good condition and small boats. You ll spend few euros there and back but you ll be in real heaven. Note, no bars around and no trees....

Go on the right day and have a blast. Sunday morning the fish market is in full swing. Huge crowds, loads of vendors, all women, shouting their wares. Fish, fish and more fish, shellfish, flatfish, cephalopods, and everything fishy. On either side of the one-lane pedestrian fish market are vendors of tacky stuff. But go for the fish-- like most local markets, it gives you a real feel for the place. The bay with the fishing boats all tied up is beautiful too.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary of Pompei, is at the very heart of all the life in Marsaxlokk. It is the home and Parish Church of a very dynamic community that welcomes thousands of pilgrims every year. A very spiritual destination that turns every tourist and visitor into a pilgrim.
This is a delightful little local church located right on the harbor. They were celebrating their 50th anniversary when we were there and they had a sign across the front to let everyone know. We could not get in as it was locked up when we visited the area.

Xrobb L-Ghagin Nature Park was opened on 11April 2011. The site was previously used as the Deutschewelle Radio Station during the cold war era. Today the non governmental organization Nature Trust (Malta) has restored the site into a nature area and the existing building into a visitors centre . The Centre runs on clean energy. The Park is situated on the South East of Malta with spectacular views.
I recommend this place for those who are travelling in a group , for this would be the perfect place for that , but deffinately not for the solo / single holiday traveller as there is no privacy at all..!

It’s a outdoor market set in a small sea-side town. Americans should think of it as a swap meet or flea market. You can buy everything from imported souvenirs to fish, local crafts to fruits and vegetables. Nothing special. Thing souvenir store in Time Square.
The market is down a small hill from the Hop-on/Hop-off so wear comfortable shoes. Water and a hat are required for hot days. Come with cash. They do not take bit coins. Some prices are marked and others are not, so be ready to haggle. The cute harbor and colorful local fisherman's boats merit a few photographs. Expect to spend 1 to 2 hours. It’s worth a visit.
