If you are on the road to and from the Doolough Pass then you have to stop here. My car group were passing in about 60 cars & each one received a very warm welcome from Catherine and her team.
The food on offer is exceptional and the sheep herding is entertaining for all ages.
Do not pass this place. Take the time to go in and enjoy. You will not be disappointed.

The Lost Valley

The Lost Valley offers a unique window into the cultural heritage of the west of Ireland. Indeed it is itself arguably the finest memorial of the Great Irish Famine that remains today. As The Lost Valley is an active working farm, visitors can experience life on the farm with pet lamb feeding for younger adventurers, a working sheep dog demonstration and a sheep shearing demonstration in season on request. Meeting point/Reception is located at the lost valley - Silver Strand, Louisburgh, Co. Mayo, Ireland.

This is a brilliant 3 hour walk through arguably one of the most unique pieces of historic landscape, certainly on this island, arguably, anywhere!
Ger, the guide, host, owner, farmer, shepherd, raconteur was in his element-a big group, good(ish) weather, and cooperative dogs and sheep.
We've been on a dozen or more visits/tours/trips over the last 5 years in this area, and this certainly ranked among the most memorable.
If you are within 50 miles of Louisburg, then DONT MISS IT,!,, it's unforgettable

My first time trekking at this stables left a memorable impression. From the moment of arrival you are thoroughly looked after by Kitty and her amazing team. As an experienced rider, I was more than impressed with how this trek was organised. The horses were well suited to all rider levels. Clear, concise instructions given by the lovely Helena and Laoise. There was 4 employees on the trek with us; this ensured each customer was well looked after and taken care of. As there was enough staff to mind the trek, Helena was able to take some riders for some spectacular gallops through the sea and fields. The trek took place around clew bay, and as a local, I was well impressed with helena and Laoise's knowledge of the local area. All round great experience, and am eager to get back for more.

Probably not the easiest to pronounce, but the An Bhun Abhainn is a real hidden gem in the West of Ireland. The place is cosy, full of interesting artwork and has a great atmosphere. The owners pay attention to detail and the staff are fantastic examples for Irish hospitality. They also organize an annual music festival called the September Sessions which is definitely worth a visit. Cannot wait to come back.

Elvis and the team provided our family with a great afternoon of fun in the surf at Carrownisky beach a few miles beyond Louisburgh. I sought this well known local beach on a long way home. An intriguing drive from Louisburgh through Mayo heartland. A spacious car park and a wide, wide expanse of pure sand and the ocean behind. I watched a family running and leaping with their dogs in such great pleasure.. One to revisit.

Stopped here on our coach tour on the way to Westport. What an amazing sculpture. Gruesome, yes. Poignant, definitely. Makes you stop and think about the terrible times and what people had to endure. I knew so little about these times, but the visit has now made it truly unforgettable.

I dropped into this pub on a beautifully sunny afternoon in Mayo, after spending time on Carrowniskey beach a few miles up the road. I was met with a warm welcome, given access to free wifi, and served one of the best pints of Guinness it has been my pleasure to drink. I sat in the comfortable beer garden to further enhance the pleasure! Definitely a place to re-visit!
