Great sandy beach with free umbrellas (not too common in Greece), all day music, volleyball nets, fully serviced bar and cafe with excellent service and quality produce. Summer weekends with DJ. Great for everyone. Not too many Beaches on the Islands can boast sand either. Lemnos is a beautiful island. A hidden gem for the perfect summer vacation. Will continue to visit regularly.

Kastro van Myrina

Reviewed By PanosMatz - Thessaloniki Region, Greece

Built by Byzantines who fortified this ancient Acropolis, the castle of Myrina had many tenants. Byzantines, Venetians, Genoese, Turks. It's strategical place made it too hot to pass by. It is not accidental that is the largest castle in the Aegean sea! More than that it is saved in a pretty good condition. Whenever I strolled around at Myrina, my eyes always were picking its great image. Like a giant loose belt of rocks crowns the top of the hill and supervises the whole place. And when the night comes..It is even more magical. A must see!

Poliochni

Reviewed By Hoosiercritic - West Lafayette, Indiana

Poliochni is an archaeological site preserving the remains of a very old city--in fact, alleged to be the first "organized" (or, maybe, fortified) city in Europe. Interpretive Signs (in Greek and English) describe four phases of development, each indicated by a color, with additional signs along the walkways noting the use of specific buildings. The location--on a bluff overlooking a beautiful beach and the Aegean--is very attractive.
The antiquity of this site is amazing--the city had a history of over 1300 years (being destroyed several times by earthquake and/or enemies) but was abandoned in 1200 BC--before the Trojan War! The modest entrance fee (2 Euros) makes this a must see on Lemnos.

Keros beach

The beach is on the east coast of Limnos and it's the place to be, if you are a wind or kite surfer.
Plenty of people "playing" and therefore there is not much space for swimmers.
Keros surf club has an organised tent down on the beach with foods, drinks, surf equipment, surf lessons etc etc.

Megalo Fanaraki Beach

This is another wonderful beach in Lemnos.
Easily accessed, there is a small stretch of dirt road toward the end, you won't get into trouble driving there , unless your car is running on super low profile tyres, like 35-40.
Crystal clear water, nice snack bar. The waters are shallow in the beginning so this is comparatively safe for young kids.

Well organized beach, long, easy accessible but also crowded. When I was there I didn't find the waters particularly clean and deep blue. If you stay to a nearby hotel then it worth the visit. Otherwise, having a car, there are better beach around and why not visit the top notch Thanos beach very close to the Plati.

Panagia Kakaviotissa Church

The whole experience is very interesting. As you walk / climb, you see beautiful, rocky landscape with lots of smaller and bigger caves. The actual climb is not difficult - but I don't understand people doing it with small children...I have experienced the trail to the Sinai mountain (much longer and higher), but it is not definitely not as easy as some people describe it. If you are visiting in the summer, try to be there as early as possible, to avoid the heath. My fitness level is pretty high, but it takes about 40 minutes in one direction. Still, it is a great experience. Take some time to take photos of the landscape as view is really amazing.

It's a very nice shallow and clean beach which is the favourite of the town locals as it is at their feet. It's got a lovely vibrant atmosphere with youngsters and families as the whole town gathers there for their afternoon dip. It offers great views over the castle at your left.
It is much quieter in the morning if you prefer peace.
