I have been coming here for many years, initially for romantic strolls with the girlfriend then progressed to showing the kids the black swans and ducks and now just for a peaceful strolls around the lake.
This has progressive become a more family friendly area with decent walking paths that go right around the lake with bird shelters / gazebos to stop and watch the wildlife.
It's right alongside the mitchell freeway and many parking spots.
Always a great free entertainment.

Nico Moretti of Urban Provider's - Cooking Passions Cooking School - teaches simple, stylish recipes in a relaxed dinner-party atmosphere, giving clients the confidence and inspiration to replicate them at home and share with family & friends. Nico & Belinda also escort clients on their regular - cooking passions "Small Group" Cuisine & Culture Tours - to some of the finest food and wine destinations in the world including Vietnam, Bali, France, Spain, Tasmania and future destinations including Sri Lanka and Morocco.
It's hard to wipe the smile off your face when you think about this tour. To escape the tourist track that you may find yourself on with larger companies, Nico takes you to his forefathers part of Italy and away from the crowds. The accommodation at Masseria Cervarolo was sublime and then off to Ostuni Brindisi for another visual feast. Include these two wonderful places to stay with sojourns to an ancient olive oil estate, an amazing winery, Castles, caves..... oh and the cooking classes. There are a couple of inclusive meals that you will definitely enjoy should you decide to take this tour. This was my 4th tour with Nico and Belinda and my wife's 5th. All are exceptional private affairs where you are among like minded people. There is no expectation to perform with Nico's tours, if you wish to kick back and have time to yourself, then you do so. Otherwise it's fun and adventure all the way.

If you can go to one of the other outdoor cinemas do it. Luna has changed from deck chairs to beanbags in the front and pretty uncomfortable metal chairs at the back. The bean bags are great if you can get one but means arriving atleast an hour or more before the film starts. Also being bigger than deckchairs there are fewer of them.
There is very little place to picnic. There are a couple of tables interspersed in the metal chair rows - not ideal compared to other cinemas that have some grassed areas to spread out on.
The staff were unhelpful. The space was cramped and really detracted from the whole outdoor experience.
It was a great experience in previous times but with the changes and the crappy unhelpful staff I won't be coming back especially as there are now so many other choices out there for the whole outdoor cinema experience.

An evening of adventure and delicious cuisine aboard Perth's only progressive dinner by rickshaw.
We've seen these pedal-powered rickshaws powering down Oxford Street before but never thought of trying it. A thoughtful Christmas present however gave us the opportunity to see what it was all about. At $95/head it's probably not something you'll do that often. They operate Tuesday to Saturday during the summer. From when we first made an enquiry the staff are on the ball getting back to us promptly and giving us clear guidance on what to expect.
The food safari starts at Ria Malay Kitchen, where once again the staff were welcoming and let us know how the evening would unfold. They served us a mixed selection of entrees, comprising a fried mushroom ball, spring roll, chicken satay, edamame beans and lotus chips. The chicken satay was delicious and the highlight - could have licked up every drop of satay sauce. All drinks are extra but still or sparkling water is complimentary. Given the dinner was free, for us, we indulged with some house cocktails ($13-16 each). Taking in the aromas and sights of what the other diners were having we would definitely come back to Ria Malay however I don't think the mixed entrees did it justice.
Hoping on our rickshaw we were powered up the road to the next stop, Kitsch Bar Asia. Having ordered earlier, when we were at Ria Malay, we didn't wait long for our mains to arrive. Again we ordered house cocktails ($13-$18 each). This time we shared the bbq szechuan chicken w/corn salsa; crispy skin pork belly w/chilli caramel & apple slaw; and green papaya salad. The chicken was great, the pork rind wasn't crispy but the slaw was amazing. In hindsight we should have ordered the fish instead. Now considerably heavy we hoped back into our rickshaw with a trip back down Oxford Street to the Foam Coffee Bar. A quieter more relaxed venue than the last two, a perfect foil and end to the safari. Sensing the daunted look on our faces and our expanded bellies the waitress generously offered to pack our cakes in a Takeout box for when we had recovered enough to savour them properly.
Would I do it again? Probably not as for $180 for the two of us we could have overindulged, including drinks, at either Ria or Kitsch quite easily. Was it a unique experience - the answer is yes. Riding down Oxford Street in the back of the rickshaw brought back memories of Asia.

We were invited to try out the every once a month Caribbean Sunday night just last weekend. You pay $5 entry and get $5 back if you order from the Kitchen. Well, just go for the dance and drinks as I cook better than what they offered from the Kitchen. I had the slow cooked fish and it was very boney and sauce was watery. Pity.

Its a classic cheesy club with old-school cheesy music.
For those who love that sort of thing, you'll probably love it. For those that don't, well you won't and you'll probably spend your time in the open air bar section at the front.
The bouncers seem obsessed with asking everyone how many drinks they've had when they come in and the place is very strict on ID.
