With Kavala as our base, we drove to this nearby ancient site. Walking past the theatre and gazing at the various vestiges of historical changes that have occurred on this site, that is still being excavated and reconstructed, we eventually visited the small interesting museum. The Greek, Roman and Christian artefacts offer an insight into a seminal period in Western history.

This village set on the slopes of the mountain is extremely pretty and well worth a visit. It is packed with restaraunts and bars. There are several places of interest to look out for including the Olive oil producers who tell and show how the olive oil is produced. Higher up the in the village is a charming square populated with bars and tavernas as well as the Freshwater stream and trees with heart shaped holes in them.

We have been there in November with my family. The castle and the location is perfect. It is very nice to walk around during the way to castle. When you reach the castle the view is perfect you can feel all the Mediterranean culture during you watch the city Kavala.
The only problem there is not interested and educated staff to explain you about the castle and its history. But for the view and trip during climbing you should visit before leaving Kavala.

Mohamed ali's family house is situated on the Panagia Peninsula, in the old town of Kavala. Constructed around 1780 and uniquely renovated between 2001-2004 stands as a highly praised piece of late Ottoman architecture. An absolute must see!
The admittance tickets are a bit pricey but the house is beautiful. This house is not exactly about Mohamed Ali though - this was his family's house really. There are few objects and artifacts inside, just bare rooms with sofas and the all-present beautiful woorwork.

Is this the world's only museum of its kind? A good overview of what used to be the region's main source of income, with a wealth of equipment showing the growing, manufacturing and distribution of tobacco. Highly interesting in a slightly eccentric way.

Everyone knows that Kavala and its surroundings were the places where the Apostle Paul arrived, moving from Israel. Also in Filipi it is possible to visit the place where he was probably prisoned and where he presumably died. This monument is not impressive, a part for the tales around the Apostle Paul.

Good setting with explanation both in English and Greek. If you want to carefully look at the setting, take two hours. Admission for adults is € 2 for a child we are not charged. I was annoyed with not at all discreet monitoring the three of us, as the only visitors. They literally blew my neck. Rude and barely answered my two questions.
Compared with the museum in Philippi, this one is better, but with Tassos museum it can not even compare.
