The strategic outpost at the western end of the Great Wall is the best-preserved pass.
There are four sites covered by the Y120 entrance ticket, three of which we visited. The main fort and wall sites are clumsy reconstructions (renovations), disappointingly ersatz amid a curiously industrial landscape: pylons and cooling towers as far as the eye can see. Coach parks, wax work figures, costume reenactments and plastic camels. The history and significance of the sites is there underneath, but the imagination has to work hard to get beyond the packaging. The hot, bleak and sandswept 'first beacon tower' (the first/last tower of the Great Wall), on the other hand, is unreconstructed, less visited, and puts the other sites in context. It's 7km southwest of the fort (Y20 by taxi) and made the rest worthwhile.

The building is on the top of a hill close to Jiayuguan, dominating the city. The structure is impressive, very wide external walls with some market carts and space for Exhibitions inside. There is a little original, most of it has been heavily restored, and this is impacting the overall view.

There is not much to a visit to the Wei-Jin Tombs but what there is is interesting. There were very few people there when we visited, which was good as the area inside the tombs is small. One of the more worthwhile parts of the standard Jiayuguan tour that takes in the fort, wall, and beacon platform.

This is a Disney version of the Great Wall. Not connected to the Wall, totally modern, you have fake camels and travelers along the Wall. You just climb up and down. Not worth the detour and entry tickets. Better go to the first tower or the Jiayuguan pass.
This is the first place that we did in the morning. If it had been the last place then we would have turned right back after seeing the real thing before.

The entry ticket to the Jiayuguan pass includes the museum. If you take the audio guide, it also covers the museum. Good way to get out of the sun too.
We did not listen to the audio guide (which you can return at the entrance of the museum) as we had given up due to the music being too loud. This museum is well designed and instructive. They have a fair amount of english explanation. A must see while there.

No that much to see but it is significant as the end (or beginning) of the Wall. You can see the huge cliff and understand how the Wall could start there. There is a small "museum" and you can take the zip line across (it was closed for repairs when we visited). Only worth a quick trip but then you can say that you were there.

I visited this glacier QiYi(7 1 in English) in May 15 years ago for my first hike to a glacier. The glacier is at elevation of 4300 m or 12,000 ft .
The hike from base park to mouth of glacier (2kms?) took about 2 hours. for every 3 steps forward I stopped to catch my breadth. There is no climbing needed but tracking up a path that followed the contour up.
Many of the trip members complained about headaches as they ascend and feeling nauseous and gave up after walking 0.2km.
We were not well prepared wearing only sport shoes. If we have snow shoes, we would have been able to walk into the glacier.
This hike is not for the unfit and you need to walk 2km up the mountain to see the glacier. Don t try if you are unfit or have high blood pressure or heart problems .

DaTang MeiShi Jie is not a very place but have a number of restaurants. According to the locals, this place is meant for tourists. There are a few restaurants that are halal or muslim friendly. We tried the mutton BBQ and is delicious albeit salty. For lunch, we also went to a restaurant that sells various kind of healthy porridges and I would say fantastic after having oily meals for the past few days!
