Husavik Adventures is a great provider of RIB trips to watch the whales. We spotted Minke whales, Porpoises and Humpback whales. Never came as close to these majestic creatures.
Other types of trips (with bigger boats) are also offered but I'm glad we chose for the RIB. Competent guide and captain made sure we didn't disturb the animals and got great phot opportunities. Must do in Husavik or Akureyri!

Christian our pilot and Henrik or 'non-guide' provided is with a fantastic day of whales, porpoise, remarkable seascapes, interesting information, and good humor. Finding out that we were supporting a local family tin business rather than a big company was a bonus. We highly recommend this operation!

We saw whales, but the best of the tour was the hot chocolate and the sweet bun at the end and to know we can leave the boat soon.

Booked a tour with our guesthouse the day before. She informed us to dress up as warm as possible and that the operator will also give us overalls to wear. Today's weather was nice and sunny the tour was amazing As we were boarding, our guide, Fred gave a briefing on what to do and once people were sorted out he preceded to give some safety briefing. Fred also introduced the other crew members, Himar & Captain who is also the co-owner of North Sailing. While sailing, he gave some information on the location and also about the whales. Saw from afar some white caps and birds which was a sign of something big ahead. Captain steered us towards the scene but we did stay a respectful distance from the animals, letting them come closer to us instead. Saw a big pod of dolphins and humpback, fin and baleen whales, one even showing its flukes super close to the ship. We spent longer than the 3 hours as were enjoying looking at the whales and dolphins. As we were heading back nearer the harbour we did see a whale blow; almost like a goodbye to us. This was after most of us were already soothed by the hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls served by the crew which did the trick in warming us up. I do realize that we were super lucky and some previous guests may have experienced rough sea and harsher weather. Would definitely recommend especially if weather was as good as todays

The Husavik Whale Museum

Reviewed By Laurie L - Plymouth, Minnesota

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the whole museum. We arrived one hour before closing & clearly got caught up in all of the information available – it was closing time before we knew it! I learned more about whales during my time there than I had in other whaling museums. There are cool displays and it definitely gives a very local connection to whaling. There was a gigantic display of bones from a beached – it was so helpful to get a real size of scale from it. There were also pictures showing the actual whale on the beach and the steps taken to get it to the museum. Fascinating.
Make sure you mind the closing time. They did not make an announcement and we were caught in almost pitch black rooms. We announced that there were still visitors and the lights came back on so we could exit.

Lava Horses

Riding tours in a magnificent nature. Surrounded by lava, wet lands, sand dessert and birch forest we can offer an experience you will remember. We are a small family driven company with only 10-15 horses, therefore this fits small groups, families and friends. We will be glad to welcome you at our farm, you may also be welcomed by our lambs and dog which like new people :)

My partner took me along to Lava Horses for my first ever ride on a horse - and it was awesome! Our guide has trained her horses up extremely well. They were very well-behaved and did exactly as we asked.
After a quick 10 minute introduction, we were on our way through the beautiful farm, where the scenery seemed to change at every turn. We rode through Forests, lava fields, farm land, and even a small river crossing to keep things exciting. There were sensational views of the Mountains off in the distance as well. Even though I'd never ridden before, our guide had us running, trotting and galloping at different stages throughout the tour.
The great thing about this tour was that it was just myself and my partner, so we got to go at our own pace. We later saw another horse riding tour a few kilometres up the road that would of had 20+ riders in the group. They were simply riding along the side of the road too - it looked so boring compared to the wonderful tour we had.
Another great addition to our tour was the energetic farm dog that came along for the ride. She was so happy to come on the adventure with us.
If you're looking for a horse tour in Iceland, I can highly recommend Lava Horses. It's easy to find - just off the main road to Húsavík and can easily be accessed with a 2WD. Your guide is friendly and has deep knowledge on the local area. She speaks perfect English and absolutely adores all the animals on her farm. This was a fantastic way to spend a summer's morning!

This place doesn't look much - until you get inside. Really great cars and utility vehicles, some incredibly well and lovingly restored so they look as if they came right out of the dealership. The collection is breathtaking in its size and quality. Very friendly...MoreThank you for your visit and you kind words! We are very happy that you liked it!

Saltvik

Saltvik offers riding experiences from short dayrides from the farm to multy day highland tours in the Wilderness of Iceland.

Reviewed By DC3s - Washington DC, District of Columbia

This was one of our favorite Iceland experiences. The horses are beautiful. The ride was through amazing scenery, and our guide led us through a variety of gaits (including the canter and the famous Icelandic tölt). I don't know if that's standard, but our guide did ask the group if we wanted to try it before we did. :) Our route took us down to the black sand beach (near the Kaldbaks-kot Cottages) and through grassy knolls with wildflowers.
The horses are well kept, and we were able to help brush them down after the ride. We could tell our guide really loved the horses. She seemed to think carefully about which horse would be best for each rider, considering their personalities too. I've never been really into horses, but I certainly left wishing I could have spent more time with these beautiful animals.

Stopped here for a look in particular the training of the astronauts. Had a lot of interesting information and displays particularly liked all the post cards stamped the same day as the landing on the moon. There is also a display for explorers and Viking information. Leonardo a volunteer from Italy was very nice and showed us where the museum was planning to do a display on volcanoes. The museum is female but definitely worth dropping in.
