Gero Onsen Gassho Village had about ten traditional houses on display. An hour was more than enough time to look around and the 800 yen admission was pretty steep. The houses still made for some good photo ops and most had decent displays inside although English explanation was lacking. I was on a wheelchair which made almost half of the village inaccessible.

This is a cascading river with multiple Waterfalls between Gero and Takayama. It's a bit hard to find. There is absolutely no guidance in English, although arguably one doesn't need much signage, nor information to enjoy a river / waterfall walk. It cost 200 Yen pp in the honesty box. We walked for about 45 minutes there and back on a system of steep metal stairs along the pristine river. The translated Japanese reviews here indicated it would be cool, and it was! Ensure you wear something warmer than you'd wear for that time of the year anywhere else.
Lovely little side tour if you're driving your own car.

If you arrive in Gero before hotel check in at 3pm, this is a good way to spend the day.
A 15 minutes walk from Gero Station through Gero town & up a side street.
An easy walk up 173 steps & your soul feels cleansed after this visit.
Drizzling day but good view from temple.

The exhibits do not have much English but you can read Chinese you can probably deduce what they roughly mean. Gives an interesting information about different kinds of Onsens in Japan. May not warrant a visit on its own but worth dropping in amidst shopping and restaurants in the same area.

This shrine is unique with its sacred stone frog for worshipping. When I tossed the coins and ringed the bell, there was echo of Japanses blessings which I didn't understand the meaning . It's on the street uphill near public foot spa. It made big smile on my face, quite surprised.
