People come from near and far to enjoy Enköping’s parks. We have around 20 parks, of varying character, where perennials have been generously used in large borders. Each park has its own style. The Dream Park, designed by the Dutch landscape architect and plantsman, Piet Oudolf, is the best-known park. In town, there are large parks with areas for playing, sports and picnics. We also have so-called pocket parks, small green oases nestled into the urban landscape with fascinating trees, shrubs and ground covering perennials. In the spring, the Magnolias and Sargent’s Cherries bloom in wonderful nuances of white and pink. At the same time, tulips, narcissi and other plants are bursting into flower. Through July, August and September, the tall, dazzling perennials take over the performance. Flowering in all the colours of the rainbow, they succeed each other during
Enköping is known as the City of Parks which gives this town a nice touch. The parks which are spread out in the town changes every year. There are guided tours available for those with a more botanical interest, or one can rent an audio guide. Maps are also available. Most parks are flat and suitable for wheelchair users too. The distance between the parks is not far so you can easily see them in a day.
Personally I like bringing a picnic, a good book, hand with friends and just relax a bit.

I have eaten here several times, most recently last week. Previously had the traditional Christmas table and more recently the business lunch. Food always excellent. Nice place to go for a walk in their natural arboretum which has an enormous collection of trees and forest managed in a variety of different styles.

If you by any chance is anywere in the neighbourhood don´t miss this church. And it is also worth a detour! It has some of the best kept medival wallpaintings from the wellknown artist known as Albertus Pictor. As folkart from 600 years ago its just fantastic.Ingmar Bergman was a great admirer of his work, some of them are seen in his film The Seventh seal. Open in Winter 10-15 in summer 10-18, all Days.

The Vårfrukyrka (Church of our Lady) is located in central Enköping on top of an esker next to a ruin from the Middle ages and the School park.
The church was built in the 12th century and therewith one of the oldest churches in Sweden. In the 15th century some extensions were made to the church and in 19th century it got its current look.
What makes the church so special are the wall paintings inside which were completed in the early 20th century. They are rich in details and warmly painted which gives the church a nice atmosphere. Towards the altar on the right hand side you'll see a dark patch in the ceiling. After the church was cleaned from all the soot from candle use they kept this patch in order to show what it looked like before electricity was introduced.
The pipe organ's exterior is from 1789 whereas the current pipe organ itself is from 1975. There are also old Bibles and other historical items to see in the church.
The church is accessible for wheelchair users too. Religious or not - this is a great historical building to visit!!
PLEASE NOTE - the church is CLOSED until 1 December 2013

The von Ehrenheim family home at Grönsöö represents a rich and diverse example of Swedish fine arts and handicrafts from three centuries combined with well preserved interiors. It is a remarkable example of a living cultural environment embracing the manor, park and orchard together with farming and forestry.Guided tours, Exhibitions, shop and café.
Unfortunately the caste is only open on weekends, as the family actually live there. But the surroundings are very nice and the cafe is worth to visit with homemade cakes (you can get the recipe).

25 historical wooden sail boats. Flag ship is a copy of a 12th century cog; a true pirate ship, 29 x 8 meters...
Great day out and worth the 100kr entrance as we all got to practice our archery, carve out our own runes..with real implements and real stones...no H &S worries here!, and the kids got to knock a nail into a Viking Thor's hammer necklace on the forge... Pulling the bellows, hitting it out on the anvil etc...a real souvenir of their holiday in Sweden! Interesting collection of boats and great longhouse up the hill( excellent home made ice cream too...where else would you get liquorice and saffron flavour ice cream?)

This small gem is one of the finest examples of the works of medieval church painter Albertus Pictor. The murals are intact and give a direct insight not only in the biblical 15:th century, but also into daily life and fantasy of ordinary people. In the summers there's a café right besides the church, run by the local parish.

We have been to many zoo's, animal parks and farms around the world, and this one ranks down towards the bottom.
The place has a lot of potential. But potential needs to be realized. Tired animals, hiding.
Food in restaurant below average. Unorganized.
Again. I stress this place has potential, and it may have been better at one time. But changes are needed.
