Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area

Unfortunately, we visited during a drought when we could not take the canoe guided tour - which appeared to be really neat. Also, that affected the wildlife that we saw - BUT, we took a 1-hour guided tour and our naturalist told us many things that we would not have picked up by just walking the trails. Trails are well maintained, easy, with interpretive signs. Take binoculars and cameras.

Kokanee Creek Provincial Park

We camped here a couple of weekend ago. We need power with our BIG fifth wheel and two small children and this campground was able to accomodate.
The salmon were jsut finishing their run and we were able to watch them AND THE BEARS!!!! That was really cool. Scary a bit too although we knew they were more interested in the food than people. It's not everyday you can watch wildlife like that in relative safety.
I was disappointed with the number of people who allowed their pet dogs to roam off leash, especially at the beach. We did mention to one gentleman that there was a dog beach just over there and his response was that he lived locally and it didn't really apply ot him in the off-season. In the hour we were there we saw four different groups of people with dogs on the dog-free beach while my young sons played in the sand. This upsets me as a dog owner as I know it is people who blatantly disregard the rules are the reason so many parks end up being closed completely to dogs. And in this case there was a dedicated beach for them to use. I don't understand. Either way I did mention it at the front gate and someone did go patrol right away. I'd just hate to see it closed permanently to dogs - or worse yet if they closed all BC Parks to dogs.
I think the fee for the Sani Dump is a little steep. It should be included in your price for staying, especially at a power site where you are paying extra as it is. And if a charge is going to be in place there really needs to be better maintenance done on the coin machine so that your coins are accepted.
I love this park. I love the proximity to Ainsworth Hot Spings. I love the beach for my kids, the boating on the lake and the salmon and bears in the fall. I definitely recommend it. There's just a couple of improvements I'd suggest.

I've finally checked off the Columbia River Brewery from my bucket list. The tour of the facility is excellent for a modest price. The service is friendly. After the tour, you get to sample two glasses of the recipe! Camera is allowed throughout the tour, too.

Creston Museum

We tell great stories. We can explain how Creston got its wacky time zone. We can tell you about the steamship that became a tractor (sort of), the first airplane to land in Creston, and the teacher who refused to be fired. Speaking of "great" stories, there's "The Great Railway Race" and the "Great Creston Bank Robbery." And have you heard the one about the imaginary student in Grade Thirteen? Really, we're not making this up. Why would we? Truth is so much better than fiction. We can even help you tell the greatest story of all: your own. So come on in. After all, there's no time like the present to discover the past.

The Museum is great for anyone to go visit, except not all buildings are handicap accessible. The Staff knows their stuff, and the guided tour is very informative!
Many neat artifacts that were preserved and restored.

Absolutely beautiful! Allow more time than you think you will need because speed limits are very low (60-80 kph on the eastern portion and 80-90 kph on the western portion). But you don't want to speed through it anyway, right?! Pull out and enjoy the lake and river overlooks. Stop and have some ice cream at one of the many country stores along the way. We had hoped to take a couple of the extra side loops, but just ran out of time.

We had the most exquisite afternoon here. They let us all gather around a rustic picnic table under the shade and try all the varieties of their finest wines. Such friendly accommodating staff. We found a perfect dry complex red, among other delicious vintages, for only $20, probably one of the best we've had anywhere, and we wished we had stocked up with more. We will be coming back! Such a beautiful summers' afternoon.
