Lago di Sorapiss

We found the hike to be a little more challenging than reviews made it seem. Definitely not a killer, but still an average hike difficulty back home in Utah.
Anyway, the lake itself is breathtaking. We couldn’t get ourselves to leave. Just wanted to stare. We were lucky to go on a foggy day that semi-cleared as we hiked, so the lake was silent and virtually empty. But with the views this place/hike has, you’ll want to see it no matter the weather.
Don’t miss this.

This would be a fun cable car ride in all seasons.
The views are unbelievable as you scale the vertical rise.
I believe it was used in the Sylvester Stallone Cliff Hanger movie.
At the top when skiing you get lots of access to some lovely runs, for non skiers there is a great restaurant to hang out either inside or outside where there are lots of sun loungers to soak in the sun and the amazing views.

Summits available with chair lift so it is great trip for families. Round trip around all five summits takes around an hours with some exhibits of military presence from WWI. also trip can be continued to the neighboring summits with many opportunities. I believe you can get also by car next to the summits but I would recommend chair lift.

Lagazuoi

Mount Lagazuoi is located halfway between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Alta Badia. Departing from the Falzarego Pass, the top of Mount Lagazuoi can be reached in 3 minutes with a modern cable car. In summer Mount Lagazuoi offers scenic hiking and rock climbing areas and an extensive Open Air Museum with itineraries through trenches and tunnels from World War I. In winter it boasts spectacular ski runs such as the Armentarola piste, considered one of the most spectacular slopes in the Alps. Being part of Dolomiti Superski ski carousel, Mount Lagazuoi is connected to the slopes of the adjacent ski areas. Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti is a brand new location for Exhibitions and meetings next to the top station of the cable car and has been designed to highlight every form of art and culture. The Lagazuoi Refuge is the highest and the largest mountain hut in Cortina d'Ampezzo and boasts the most panoramic Terrace in the Dolomites and a Finnish outdoor sauna.

Driving the Falzarego, and the Valparola above it give you incredible vistas of several different ranges in the magnificent Dolomiti. Scenic, with old artillery pieces, several cable tram lifts and Inn/cafes at the tops of the passes make these drives unforgettable if you are a mountain driver. These rival all of the Swiss and Austrian passes I have driven, including the Grossglockner.

Mt. Cristallo

Reviewed By Vanessza E

To start with the obvious: the view from the top of Mt. Cristallo is utterly stunning. To stand at 3000 meters and admire the surrounding huge Mountains and Valleys is simply breathtaking. To reach the top,y you can take two cable cars. Neither of them stops, so you literally have to hop on and off, which makes the trip even more memorable and funny. The second cable car is quite old, it looks like a capsule, but it's really worth to take a chance even if you are a bit frightened by heights. It will be a surely unforgettable trip, I highly recommend it.

This location is within easy walking distance of Fiames and the Camping Olimpia site. I often take groups there to introduce them to vie ferrate in order to get them used to using the equipment. There are three VFs along the route but I usually stick to Barbara and Dailati (excuse spelling). In summer these can be completed without the use of specialist equipment by those experienced and confident enough, but there is a tricky traverse across a the top of a small cliff so I'd always take the kit with me. The Waterfalls never fail to impress and I can't wait to visit during winter.

Monte Averau

Reviewed By invinoveritasUK - UK

I cannot praise the Rifugio Averau too highly. My wife and I recently spent 7 nights there and it was fantastic. The staff are charming (thank you Max and Sandro), the rifugio is spotlessly clean, and the location is stunning. We were lucky enough to stay in Room 4 which has an ensuite bathroom and a balcony with glorious views. Dinner and breakfast were brilliant, and there is even a great wine list. The staff were so kind to us, we missed the last lift one day (we were travelling by car from another resort and needed to stop to put on the snow chains), and Sandro sent down the skido to collect us.
A couple of practical tips. We had a hire car, which was useful, and probably the only way we would have had enough time to fly from the UK, collect skis and lift passes and get to the 5 Torri chairlift in time to catch the last chair up to Averau. You can park either at the 5 Torri chairlift (take SR48 out of Cortina for about 10 miles, there is a large (free) car park) or from the other side of the mountain taking the Fedare chairlift by taking the SP638 from Cortina to Passo Giau (probably about 15 miles). There is a beautiful circular ski route from Averau, but my only criticism is that the skiing you can reach directly from Averau is slightly limited.
I would highly recommend Rifugio Averau to anyone wishing to skiing in the Dolomites, and to stay is absolute comfort in a stunning location.
