I love Cartagena. It is a beautiful place to visit. The food is magnificent, people are friendly and the weather is great! This is one of Colombia´s treasures! There are many hotels. Some are very exclusive boutique hotels and there are others that are not that expensive.

The Banco de la República Gold Museum houses one of the most important collections of pre-Hispanic metallurgy in the world. As its history, which dates back to 1939, has unfolded, so this institution has become a symbol of Colombia's cultural memory. Its golden exhibition, fully renewed in November, 2008, is a place you cannot miss in your next trip to Bogota.

This is a truly amazing collection of pieces.
The museum is laid out in a pathway for you to follow upwards, explaining both the history of precious metals and the processes that were used by different groups of people over time.
The collection is huge and well labeled and laid out. It is amazing that such a collection has been amassed and well worth a visit.

It is the only civil aviation and railroad museum in Colombia. See 27 full size aircraft and 4 locomotives, two model airports and two giant working model railroad layouts. More than 3500 models, many in realistic dioramas and the largest collection of airline flatware. There is also a collection of 30 uniforms and flying suits, both military and civilian.

Fulfilled a life list item of swimming with sea turtles here! There are currently four there who are very calm and used to visitors. The water was so clear and clean. The reef is healthy and home to dozens of varieties of fish. You can snorkel all the way around the cay if the water is calm enough.
Do yourself a favour and book your visit with Ocean View Glass Bottom Boat Tour to visit this cay at your own pace as well as other amazing spots along the reef. Derrick Martínez and his partner Luís are the best in the business. They are very proud of this natural island and surrounding cays. Recommend arriving early in the morning before the other tours arrive.
Take a little walk up the stairs for a stunning view of the sea of seven colours. Light snacks and beverages are available after 9:00 a.m. There is a little bit of shade at the dock and a fairly easy set of stairs to help you get in the water with your snorkel and fins.
We visited twice in three days. It was awesome! Can't wait to return.

My wife and I went on the tour of the reserve (guadua means "bamboo tree") in a cloud forest. Carlos was our guide, and for over two hours guided us through the forest, explaining the ecological issues that allow this marvelous place to survive. This survival is aided by the commitment of Carlos and his colleagues of the Kasaguadua Foundation, who are committed to preserving the forest. This was not only an educational and inspiring tour, but also provided a hike through beautiful scenery. It is free but donations are accepted (and really, really you should donate if you go on this tour). It is a short jeep ride from Salento, but also walkable. Don't miss it if you're in Salento!

South America is full of amazing landscapes. It's hard to say something's truly exceptionally unique. Traveling South America for four months so far, I've seen many things. And yet, Cano Cristales impressed me to no end. It was just amazing to see those red and yellow colors, transforming these otherwise pedestrian rivers into something mesmerizing. There's no way to visit it independently and you'll have to take a tour. Most tours offer similar accommodation and restaurants, so look into pricing as the deciding factor. There is a tour as short as for three days, but I recommend taking four days, if not more. Because weather in the region is unstable, sometimes it rains so much, and sometimes it's too dry. when it rains too hard you won't see the beauty of it, and when it's been too dry the algaes are out of the water and that doesn't look too good. So you need to allow for a few extra days in order to see them in good conditions. I took four days tour and only one day was a good day to see them. But even then seeing them was something spectacular. If you're in Colombia this is you should definitely go.

We considered our selves very fortunate to be able to visit this park that features six different environments and a few lakes in an area covering about 17 acres with approximately 1800 birds and more than 135 species: that's the Aviario Nacional de Colombia!
The entrance fee is 40,000 COP (credit cards accepted) per person and it takes about two hours to tour; on site there are a couple of coffee shops, a restaurant and restrooms.
There are also two daily shows but we had to skip the afternoon one in order to be able to finish our tour before closing (4:00 P.M.).
What we particularly appreciated was the American (pink) flamingos, condor of the Andes, Emu, parrots, peacocks to name just a few.

Very steep and rather long walking road (no cars allowed) down to the church. It is every bit as beautiful as the pictures say. Unfortunately for photographers (like ourselves) all the best viewing areas have become overgrown, with bushes now preventing the best images.
We went on a rainy December morning, and there were almost no crowds. One of the advertising signs shows a scene with many hundreds of tourists filling the square in front of the church. We were lucky enough to have only two people -- both vendors hawking photographs.
