While the area might be nice, the minaret itself is not that big a deal. It’s the second tallest minaret in Central Asia, but you can’t climb up. Seen from the ground, it just another tower in a land full of towers.

Beautiful structure that has frequently adorned book covers but much more magestic in real. our hotel was situated opposite the entrance and so easy to access.During the weekend there is a craft market and even costume booths where one can dress up in clothes of ancient eras. The Blue Domes are just amazing to look at. We browsed through the courtyards at night and with the Kalyan Minaret so regally lit up this is indeed a sight to behold.

The site is not grand but great for a short visit in the middle of the park to tell of the unique architecture that has been influenced by cross continental cultures to end up with this unique style of construction. A good introduction to this great historic city in the center of the ancient silk road.

The Bolo Khauz complex located near the Chasma Ayub consists of the Water Reservoir, Friday Mosque and small minaret. It was built during the 18th century and has a remarkable verandha of traditional avyan which consists of a decorated ceiling supported by wooden pillars beautifully carved with intricate motifs and flower designs . In the middle of the courtyard is the Reservoir but drinking water not safe due to contamination. The mosque has a very beautiful entrance flanked by intricate mosaic and arabic inscriptions. The ceiling and interior of the mosque is very impressive . We were able to pray the midday prayer here.

The Chor-Minor is an interesting madrasa with 4 minarets. Not sure I recall any madrasas worldwide with this many. They are rumored to represent 4 major religions and each are decorated differently

This place is the absolute hub of old Bukhara. There are a few over-priced, average restaurants here, good for only a drink or two; definitely look elsewhere for food. A pond, rather dirty, sits at the centre, and at night the atmosphere around this area is electric. Market stalls stay open til late, lots of local families come out with their kids, loud live music plays, it's quite fun and bouncy.

This is right outside of Arc Fortress, actually part of it. Be sure to walk around to take some good pictures. The front side where main gate of arc fortress is located was renovated, so walk around to see the parts that hasn't been renovated to get comparison and see what's original.

The summer residence of the last Emir of Bukhara, located just outside the city.
Well worth a visit if you are a little jaded with Minarets Madrassas and Mosques. This former summer palace consists of numerous buildings in a European style with fancy interiors.
My favourite is the Harem and pool complete with a separate viewing platform for the emir to observe proceedings. Very atmospheric.
