Tahiti Safari Expedition - Day Tours

Reviewed By James H - Southampton, United Kingdom

After being recommended this trip by a friend we were looking forward to it. Unfortunately a couple of things let it down.
The guide, I don't know his name as he never introduced himself, was quite friendly but was very difficult to get any information out of. On the couple of occasions when he would answer a question it was clear he had a wealth of knowledge but could not be bothered to share it.
We made a couple of stops before lunch but once again a real lack of why we stopped or what we were looking at. Views were OK during the trip but I think we had built it up in our heads to be stunning when they were not that impressive.
Be prepared for a long, bumpy drive in the afternoon which normally we would not mind but the ambivalence of the guide made it seem so much worse.
One of the few trips we would not recommend from our year long trip.

Faarumai Waterfalls

Reviewed By TexasCatBird - Gatesville, TX

When we visited Faarumai waterfall during our island tour, the bridge and road had been temporarily repaired from a previous storm's destruction. But our small tour van could maneuver over the temporary bridge and down the short road to the waterfall car park. Along the road are low income houses (as pointed out by our guide) and dogs/cats lying in the street not willing to move out of the way. Once at the waterfall we walked up the short path to the foot of the pool at the waterfall's base.

Scubatek

Reviewed By Ana_and_Anton - Aberdeen, United Kingdom

We took the whale watching tour with Arnauld from Scubatek while on our honeymoon. The reservation was promptly organized via email and Arnauld was kind enough to offer a free pickup from our B&B in Papeete. Once we arrived at their base we were given all the necessary equipment and given a briefing. We appreciate that Arnauld made a lot of effort to translate everything to English as we were in a all French ground. We then stepped aboard their rigid-hulled inflatable boat. We were surprised by the choice of boat at first as it offered no shade and it was quite uncomfortable at times when sitting on the inflatable sides of the boat while bouncing against the waves. We later found out why they use this type of boat. It is for safety/operational reasons as the soft inflatable sides allow multiple snorkelers to pull themselves back up aboard quickly and simultaneously. This was quite critical when trying to get 1o people back on the boat with big waves. To be fair Arnauld warned everyone to take sunscreen and also pointed out the best seats on the boat to sit on if you are prone to seasickness. All the discomfort of the burning sun and bumpy ride were worth it in the end as we sighted humpback whales jumping and diving, as well as managed to get in the water to watch a humpback whale (maybe 2 years old and 10m long) from close up. It was a truly surreal moment. We are also very happy to say that Arnauld conducts this activity with great care for the animals. He goes out of the way and prefers to look for the whales away from the main touristy spots that have been known to be crowded and annoying to the animals. THANK YOU ARNAUD AND Scubatek!

Beautiful hotel and food! The infinity pool was gorgeous and at times we had it to ourselves. The only thing that spoiled this holiday were the mozzies - we got eaten alive :-)

La Maison James Norman Hall

Reviewed By Gary G - Newark, Delaware

James Norman Hall was an adventurer, soldier (he was in the armed forces of 3 countries during World War I), pilot, and writer, best known as co-author of "Mutiny on the Bounty," He spent most of his life after the war (including all of his married life) in this restored house which is now a museum. Manager Vivienne Millett is a gracious hostess, and is delighted to share her knowledge of this remarkable man and his family.
The museum is about 6 km from Papeete, and can be reached by bus or taxi. All buses marked "Arue" stop at the entrance. Be sure to have XPF, since buses (and many taxis) won't accept foreign currency.

Aquabike Center Tahiti

Reviewed By Jenifer T - Singapore

This is my first time taking this Aqua bike in Tahiti l, heard from the in charge that only 2 places in the world have this Aqua bike activity, another one is near Madagascar towards India .
Very excited to board the speed boat to the platform viewing the aquabike.
The instructors did a simple demonstration and explained what will happened when we are down. Shoulder to head will not be wet, so ladies makeup and hairdo is safe.
Slowly close the cover of the top part and the first person sitting infront would have to drive the Aqua bike, very simple just press pedal or release and turn sterling wheels.
3 meters down the surface of sea and follow the instructor. Amazing view below is unbelievable, corals, oysters, sea cucumbers, fishes, starfishes are so crystal clear before.
Please try if you are in Tahiti.

La Maison James Norman Hall

Reviewed By frw7 - Corona del Mar, California

James Hall Museum is easy to visit. It is located next to a major road. We lucked out on our visit last year as a granddaughter was giving excitement by telling stories of the past. She autographed a book.
