An ancient Greek theater built in the third century.
This is a really stunning site and is certainly worthy of its UNESCO listing. Unfortunately there were far too many other people there when I visited for me to properly enjoy the experience, but it was still well worth visiting. This site has the advantage of closing later than the usual 3pm winter closing time, so you can take that into account when planning an itinerary in the area.

I wrote the review on the whole site itself. I really dont see why this gate deserves a separate entry on this site.
It is just a gate. But Mycenae is more than just this gate. So I think this gate is hyped up. tourists usually go in large groups. Usually with a tour group or come in by bus. I suggest if you try to get a photo of the gate, do so on your way back or in the middle of your tour to be out of phase with the rest of people.

Palamidi castle is really one of the more impressive Castles I've seen around the world. It looks particularly impressive at night with the lights on. Views from the top are fantastic on a clear day. I cheated and drove up there, but the stairs are definitely an option. Worth the effort to visit for sure.

This museum has the oldest armor extant. Also it had a unique ceramic wine cooler from centuries ago and some face masks that no one knows the origin of. I found it fascinating and was pleased that the security guard could offer insights to enhance my visit.

we visited the site on December the 1st, but still the weather allowed to fully experience the inspiring solemnity of the ancient ruling capital. Entry fee is very reasonable considering it includes also the entrance to the museum and the treasury site, slightly aside form the main one. Descriptions, maintenance and cleanness are above the average in the mediterranean area. Probably we should have hired a private guide for a deeper experience.

It's downhill, about 1 km ride from the main site of Mycaenae. There's also a parking spot nearby, you'd need a separate ticket, but it's really worth it. The Citadel is incredible. Not as a demanding site when it comes to walking as main site and the visit is quite short.

Before I visited, I was told that the museum was not worth visiting as the best items are in the National Archaeological Museum, though there are some copies here. I was therefore pleasantly surprised at what I found. The museum is worth visiting as it gives more information on the archaeology and there is an extensive display of ceramics, plus the replicas of treasure found in the graves such as the mask of Agamemnon.

I can see that this might be a useful place for a dip in the sea - even in October it was quite hot - but I saw no beauty in the place. Yes, the walks to the beach in both directions are stunning and the views out to sea are glorious but the beach itself was very odd. It’s a tiny patch of pebbles and a vast expanse of concrete. The beach bar was closed so there were no loungers but maybe the lack of loud music mentioned in other reviews was a relief. Clearly there’d been some attempt at smartening the place up (tubs of plants, pergola, changing rooms) but there was no getting away from the hideous derelict wreck of a former hotel (???) at one end of the beach and the towering shell of some other concrete monstrosity in a state decay above on the cliff. There are dozens of far nicer Beaches in the area.

A vey popular beach, with the locals as well as tourists. It has a wide stretch of sand to stake out your place, and the water is warm and calm. This former quiet fishing village has turned into quite a tourist destination. You will find many amenities on and around the beach.
