Mt Kalsubai

Reviewed By Pramod T

I and my colleagues from office planned to scale to the top of mount Kalsubai on 19th August. There were lot of things uncommon in this group, age, physique, trekking experience; some were first timers while some had experience of trekking in Himalayas. But one thing was common, aim to reach top of Mt. Kalsubai.
You will be able to see breathtaking views of Bari village and surrounding area as scale towards the top. The view becomes more and more beautiful as to go up. You will be able actually walk amongst the clouds as you scale further up. For me, second interest was to prove to myself that I can still do it. For people who don't know about Mt. Kalsubai, it is a topmost peak in Sahyadri and one needs to climb 4500 feet from Bari village base through bushes, slippery patches and iron stairs to reach the top. This is equivalent to climbing 223 floors (thanks to technology, fitbit). Overall, Kalsubai is not a difficult trek but it does test your endurance and resolve. And that's what I wanted to prove, beyond the greed of getting some good pictures.
We started from Mumbai just around midnight and reached Bari village at 4:30 AM. There is no cell network beyond BSNL, so we had to stay put in the bus till we could see someone to ask for directions. At 6:00 AM we saw someone from village and got directions to reach to Pundalik Khadeji's house. After getting ready and good breakfast of 'pohe', we started our journey towards the top at 7:00 AM. As initial interest to climb was taken over by body pain, group members started asking classic questions, "Are we there yet?" or "Abhi kitna baki hain?". Group members forgot pain when they saw the view below. But soon our luck ran out and whole are was covered in clouds. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. We all supported each other in the journey, physically and mentally, and managed to keep ourselves locked on to the target. I am proud to note that we all made it to the top at 10:30 AM based on shear will power. We were the first group to reach to the top. Mt. Kalsubai offers a fantastic view of Sahyadri mountain ranges from the top.
As we were climbing down, we hogged on much awaited 'kanda bhaji' and 'chai' near the water well. Before reaching Khadeji's house, we enjoyed dip in the pool of water coming down from the waterfall. It was refreshing and muscle felt lot relaxed. We had tasty lunch at Khadeji's house and bid adieu to this beautiful place.
As the bus moved my feelings were mix of achievement, relaxation and something beyond what I can explain in language. And just for that feeling I would love to visit this place again!

We had been to museum during our short trip to Ahmednagar. It has got fantastic collection of different types of tanks across world since world war 2. Museum needs periodic maintenance, basic amenities and good promotion to attract tourists. Definitely worth of visiting once as it's only Tank museum across Asia.

Sandhan Valley

Sandhan valley is a beautiful carved valley in magnificent Sayhadri mountain range, which is part of Western Ghats in Maharashtra. Surrounded with mighty and jaw-dropping Mountains of Ratangad and Kalsubai, the valley stands at the height of 4255 ft high above sea level, which is the perfect spot for trekking and other adventure activities. The trek goes through 200 ft deep and 2 km long gorge carved by water between the narrow walls. The adventurous part of the trek kicks in when we are left to rappel down the 100 ft rocky patch with the help of experienced guides and equipment. Unlike all treks, we descend down in valley on the first day and climb up the next day. We camp in the valley and while descending, we have to rappel down at 3 spots. This trek is not for people who want to give up halfway! Entry to Sandhan Valley is Free, people who are just visitors and not prepared for the hike are recommended to not venture beyond the water pond. While on the trek, its must to carry Sleeping bag, sleeping mat, Food, you should be accomapnied by professional guides with rope equipment for rappelling and anchoring at few spots. We can arrange a trek for you to Sandhan Valley with the full package ie: Professional Guide, Climbing equipement, tents, sleeping bags, food etc.

Hi friends we have visited this waterfall in Aug 2017. Since it was raining heavily and released water from dam, made this fall great to watch. But on holidays it is too crowded and hawkers sell street food over there which makes such a beautiful place dirty and clumsy.

Amruteshwar Temple

Reviewed By hari-the-traveller - Mumbai, India

Made the visit to this temple during my stay at Bhandardhara. Very peaceful surrounding and the drive to this temple is very interesting, as the drive has many types of terrain. The stone carvings are very beautiful and ancient. This is about 15 kms from the lake and one has to pay forest dept toll to reach there. Cater for enough time as the entire "parikrama" of the lake has many other interesting spots and photo-shoot opportunities. This parikrama is about 40 kms
Carry along some snacks and water but please do not pollute the surroundings.

Ahmednagar Fort

This fort is under military control and is in good condition. This place is closed for public. Army allows public to visit this fort on 26th January & 15th August every year. So be sure to visit this fort if you are in/near to Ahmednagar on these two days.
This fort was built by Malik Shah Ahmed in 1427 and later this fort was ruled by Mougulas, Nizams, British, Peshwas etc. Aurangzeb died in this fort at the age of 88. British used this fort as Jail.
British has jailed Jawaharlal Nehru, Abul Kalam Azad, Sardar Patel and other members of the Indian National Congress for almost three years between 1942 to 1945.
Our famous Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has wrote famous book Discovery of India here in this fort.
The room where Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was imprisoned is relatively better maintained along with old letters from Nehru to Indira. A whole lot of newspaper articles about Nehru are also well maintained in an album.
