Prepare your visit: Go to the Google Play Store/Apple Store and download the IZI.TRAVEL app. Open the izi.TRAVEL app en click on the compass button on the lower left side of your screen. Type in 'Aalsmeer' via the search bar and open the Royal FloraHolland audiotour. Have fun! Our location at Aalsmeer is the largest trading centre for plants and flowers in the world. And it's just a stone's throw from Schiphol airport. The earlier you get here, the more you see. From the Visitor Centre, walk across a gallery through the auction complex. At the end of the gallery, you'll arrive at the auction halls where you'll see the flowers come before the auction clock. As you walk around, you'll find information panels which explain - in four languages - the auction process and the activities you'll be watching. There's no need to sign up for this tour in advance. You can also explore the auction with a professional guide. Reservation on the website, extra charge.

It was worth it to get up early to get out to the auction while the action was frenzied! It was a beehive of activity! It was hard for us to take our eyes off of the floor with all of the rapid and precise movements. Like a synchronized orchestra. And the warehouse is like a city onto itself. So glad we finally made the effort to go on this trip!

We took sailinglessons at this lake at the sailingschool there and even got our first official sailing papers so we can rent a sailboat next time we visit. It's a very nice place where you can either use and or rent a boat to explore the surroundings. There are a lot of privatly owned isles but it is still nice to sail arround and through this area. There is also a small beach where you can enjoy some swimmingtime.

Mill the Lion

Corn windmill De Leeuw (the Lion), established at its current location for more than 150 years, is a landmark in the village of Aalsmeer. 22 volunteers keep this cultural heritage working as a living monument that accommodates a regional demand for traditionally milled flours. As part of the historic cultural education local primary schools, as well as tourists, often visit the mill. This monument is also used as a training and examination mill for apprentice millers. Thus Corn windmill De Leeuw is a cultural heritage that caters for traditionally milled flours and historical education.

This was a perfect stop on our bike trip. As it was working we had to stop and see if we could tour. run by volunteers this windmill out of the 1600's is still operating as a flour mill. You can take a tour (only open two days a week for a short time) for only 1.20 Euro per person. What a deal!
The volunteer guides you up onto the upper levels and explains the flour making process and how the mill works. You can see the flour process as it has been done for hundreds of years and there are pictures of other types of windmills located throughout Holland. When you are done you can purchase the flour that has been milled for a great price. They have a nice selection of mixes from the milled flour to select from.
This was a great way to learn about flour milling and also we got to help move the mill to catch the wind. Can't say enough of what a great way to spend a few minutes on our bike trip.
Recommend that you must be able to climb stairs for the tour.

He could not have been more helpful, genuinely friendly, so the best start for some anxious novices. Boat returned in one piece, kids and parents blissfully escaped normal routine for the day...will be back for more...

Weby accident stumbled upon this nice facility.
An old water resorvoir hosts now a nice collection of paintings, sculptures, glass art, ceramics and many more pieces of art.
It shows a nice collection of Dutch artists, and if you are shopping for something nice other than the standard souvernirs, this is a nice place to spend some money.
We visited the old Water tower opposite of the gallery, and were completely surprised by the collection that was displayed. Well worth a visit for art collecters!

Wij komen zeker terug!!!!
